Podzimniy sowing has several indisputable advantages, the main of which is the receipt of very early fruits. Seed material that is strong and swollen during the winter rises faster in order to bring a decent harvest to gardeners. With the beginning of the autumn season, work at the summer cottage stops over time. But before the initial frosts appear, there is a chance to plant frost-resistant vegetables and get a harvest for the next year. September and early October are characterized by warm weather, and plants have time to form roots and get stronger. What crops are suitable for winter sowing?

Principles of planting vegetable crops in autumn

Sowing vegetables in autumn has several advantages:

  • time is saved during the sowing period in the spring;
  • it becomes possible to collect the first vegetables 14-20 days earlier;

  • you can use seed that will lose its validity in the next season;
  • vegetables and herbs grow strong and seasoned.

Despite the advantages, this method also has some disadvantages:

  • early hatching of seeds and death of sprouts;
  • sowing material should only be in light fertile soil;
  • in the event of an unexpected flooding of the site, many crops die;
  • for planting, it is necessary to use the seeds of frost-resistant plants.

Before choosing a territory for planting, you need to pay attention to the characteristics of each specific plant being planted. Moisture should not stagnate in this area either in spring or autumn, and snow should not accumulate in winter. The grooves in the beds are recommended to be made not as deep as when sowing in spring, and the seed material must be selected as large as possible, by about 20-25%. After planting, the seeds must be covered with pre-prepared humus or peat, and spruce branches or straw are placed on top.

What plants are suitable for planting

Unpretentious for podzimny planting are:

  • carrot;
  • leafy parsley;
  • garlic;
  • Dill;
  • beet;
  • onion.

Recommendations for planting garlic

Plant 12-20 days before the cold appears, the depth of the teeth should be at least 3-5 cm. Place the rows at a distance of 17-20 cm, the gap between the teeth is 6-10 cm. Dig up the bed before planting, after adding mineral fertilizers. The vegetable prefers to grow on soft soils.

The place should be well lit with no groundwater. 17-20 liters of rotted compost should be added to the ground per 1 sq. m with phosphorus-potassium fertilizer in a proportion of 15 g / 1 sq. m.

Before planting, it is necessary to disinfect the teeth in potassium permanganate (0.1%) or copper sulfate (1 tbsp. l. / 10 l of liquid). The procedure should last for 2-3 hours. Cover the finished plantings with fallen leaves or spunbond.

Winter onion planting

Be sure to disinfect the garden with a composition of copper sulfate (1 tbsp. l. / bucket of liquid). Choose a suitable variety and plant the seedlings no more than 3 cm deep.

Cover the plot with foliage or dry grass.

Planting herbs

Sow in late October. A slightly acidic or neutral loose soil rich in organic matter is well suited.

Dill plant in 2 cm deep grooves with 20 cm row spacing. Apply 25% more seeds than in the spring.

Parsley pre-germinate in a warm room by placing in cheesecloth or damp cloth. Then refrigerate the sprouted seed on the bottom shelf for a week.

The spacing between rows should be up to twenty centimeters, sow the seeds to a depth of no more than one centimeter.

Winter planting of beets

Before planting, add ash powder, phosphorus-potassium additive and humus.

Plant the seeds to a depth of no more than 3-4 cm. Fill the seed with loose soil, sand and compost. Tamp the ground and cover with foliage or sawdust.

Winter sowing of carrots

It is advisable to make the garden bed high for planting carrots. Before sowing, add humus (2-4 kg), superphosphate (1 tbsp. l.), potassium salt (1/2 tbsp. l.). After about a month and a half (in October), make the rows. Cover the beds with foil and leave alone until November.

Sow dry carrot seeds by November 10th and sprinkle with dry soil. You can cover the planting with branches or spruce branches.

Winter landing of sorrel

The perennial is sown as soon as the first frost occurs. First moisten the soil and make holes for planting to a depth of 1.5 cm. Tamp the ground with a rake and cover the garden with foliage or snow.

Sowing parsnips before winter

Plant dry seed in frozen ground. Make holes about 3 cm deep beforehand. Plants should be at least ten centimeters apart and grooves up to 35 cm apart.
