The memphis style appeared in the 80s of the last century. Bright colors, asymmetry and avant-garde forms became its hallmarks. Over time, "Memphis" adapted to modern realities and became a little less revolutionary and a little more restrained, but did not lose its colors and readiness for experiments. After rebirth, he is experiencing a new wave of popularity.
The designer told about the characteristic features of the style Olga Shapovalova.
Bright colours
An abundance of bright colors is the basis of "Memphis". The style carried this trait over the years, but it still did not go unchanged. The main difference is that complex rather than open colors prevail in modern interiors.
This makes them more concise and utilitarian. Also, “Memphis” is characterized by a color combination according to the color-block principle, while monochrome solutions are practically absent.
Geometry
Memphis is inextricably linked with geometry. A variety of forms is realized both in decoration and in furniture and accessories.
It is worth noting that today strict lines, zigzags, triangles and squares have been replaced by more rounded silhouettes, hemispheres and arches. This sets modern interiors apart from their predecessors from the 80s.
Ornaments
Another distinctive feature of the style is the presence of various patterns and ornaments. Repetitive patterns make the interior feel more vibrant and dynamic.
For those who are afraid of daring experiments with decoration, a solution with unusual furniture upholstery or decorative pillow covers is suitable. Also, a peculiar pattern can be traced, for example, in the perforations on the radiator screen or in the relief of gypsum panels.
Unusual furniture
Furniture of avant-garde shapes and unusual silhouettes is welcome. At the same time, practicality comes to the fore, and more sophisticated experiments are left to the details - armrests of chairs, backs of sofas or handles on facades.
Products that are too grotesque and asymmetrical are gradually losing their relevance. Games with volumes are to a greater extent transferred to the level of decor.
Details
In the past, "Memphis" was full of details, but today their number has noticeably decreased. Instead, the style began to gravitate towards minimalism.
Accessories and textiles are applied in dosage so as not to overload the already saturated space. For decoration, paintings with abstract images, unusual lamps or vases are often used.
Invoices
"Memphis" allows the use of a variety of textures - matte surfaces can be combined with gloss, leather with suede, glass with ceramics, and metal with wood.
Of course, in modern adaptation, you should not overdo it, so as not to burden the interior too much.
