Since its inception, geotextile fabric has become very popular among owners of household and garden plots. During its existence, the benefits of using the canvas exceeded all expectations of the developers. It has a whole range of excellent qualities: it perfectly resists prolonged exposure to moisture, does not swell, does not rot and holds the distributed load well. With the help of the geotextile, site owners began to solve many problems, sometimes using it in the most unexpected way.
Protection on a sunny day
The geotextile passes moisture well, but the sun's rays practically do not penetrate through it. This prompted the gardeners to come up with a very useful idea: it can be used to make a canopy for the beds. A number of agricultural crops do not like direct sunlight; they act on plants in a far from best way. Geotextile for this it has the most suitable qualities: it is opaque and very light. It does not need powerful supporting structures, and at the same time it costs much less than an awning.
Laying garden paths
A beautiful and even droshky on a personal plot is the golden dream of all owners. However, it is difficult to maintain them in good condition: the sand quickly "spreads" in all directions, and the path loses its beautiful appearance. Therefore, for its device, geotextile is used, it is laid on a previously prepared, flat and tamped surface, so that then sand or fine gravel is poured over it. The canvas here plays the role of a substrate that distributes the load, does not allow depressions to form, but in order to the crumb or sand poured on top did not spill out of the path and did not create a mess, the edge of the canvas is tucked up and done border.
Green roof
One of the most interesting techniques for decorating buildings on a personal plot is creating a green roof on them. The main element in this case is waterproofing, which prevents water penetration and damage to the roof. But it is very easy to damage it, after which the protective functions are reduced to zero. To protect the waterproofing, a geotextile layer is used, it is soft and well protects it from mechanical damage. An interlayer of non-woven material is laid at the top and bottom of the waterproofing.
Artificial reservoir
Likewise geotextile 200 used during the equipment of artificial reservoirs. The water in them is retained by means of a waterproofing membrane, which is placed directly into the prepared foundation pit. But in the process of designing a reservoir, the membrane is easily damaged, and the water will begin to flow out. Geotextile, of course, will not be able to protect against heavy loads, but it will perfectly cope with accidental mechanical stress. It is laid on top of the waterproofing, creating an intermediate protective layer.
Root system limitation
One of the problems that one has to face when using landscape design is overgrown root systems. In the adjacent thematic zones, unnecessary shoots appear, and the transplantation or replacement of plants turns into a difficult and tedious procedure. You can limit the growth of the root system using the same geotextile: in the place where the plants will be, they make a fairly large depression and line it with a canvas. It turns out a kind of flower pot, beyond which the root system will no longer go out.
Planting protection
One of the uses of geotextiles was invented by ingenious gardeners. The planted beds are covered with long and narrow pieces of cloth, in the middle of which a cut is made. Through this incision, seeds germinate and seedlings rise. This is done solely in order to reduce the amount of future weeding. Sunlight is required not only for cultivated plants, but also for weeds, and geotextiles thus inhibit the growth of the latter. In addition, it covers the surrounding land and prevents it from drying out too quickly, thus retaining the moisture necessary for plant life.
These are just a few of the home uses for geotextiles. It can perform many other useful functions, it all depends on the imagination of a person.
