In order for roses to be able to safely survive the cold and resist various diseases, they need to be fed with phosphorus-potassium fertilizers. It is worth adding to this and calcium. There is no need to apply nitrogen fertilizers for plants - this can provoke foliage growth and make it difficult to prepare for the winter season.

When the rainy season comes, roses must be fed twice: at the end of August, after flowering ends, and at the beginning of October. There are several ways to apply fertilizers:

  • dissolve the fertilizer in water and pour the mixture under the rose bush. Thus, you will carry out root and foliar feeding;
  • instagram viewer
  • sprinkle the granules on the soil;
  • retreat 15 cm from the stem and carefully, without damaging the roots, make a furrow around the flower and pour fertilizer into it. Sprinkle the furrow with black soil.

All these methods have a beneficial effect on the plant. The rose will receive adequate nutrients.

Foliar feeding

The indisputable advantage of foliar dressing is that plants rapidly acquire the necessary nutrients, but the composition of the soil does not change. Most often, roses are fertilized in two ways:

  • take 50 g of superphosphate and dilute in one liter of warm water. Stir the whole mixture well and pour into a bucket of water. The solution is sprayed on the foliage of roses;
  • mix two fertilizers - potassium monophosphate and superphosphate and dilute in 10 liters of water.

Few plants love ash as much as roses. Therefore, in the fall, it will be useful to sprinkle your damsels with a solution of ash. For foliar top dressing, 200 g of ash is diluted in 10 liters of water.

It is important not to forget that spraying plants in the daytime, when the sun is especially active, can cause leaf burns. And too late spraying in the evening can provoke the development of a fungus, since the moisture simply does not have time to turn into steam.

Root feeding

Before the onset of cold weather, ready-made liquid and granular complex fertilizers can be used to feed the roses. According to gardeners, liquid fertilizers are better absorbed by roses, but the latter last longer, they gradually enter the ground and nourish the plant. Choose the ones that suit you best.

The preparation of a balanced fertilizer does not require any special skills and abilities, and you can make it yourself.

In 10 liters of water for autumn root feeding, add 16 g of potassium monophosphate, 15 g of superphosphate. Usually this amount is enough to enrich plants with nutrients up to 5 square meters.

Many summer residents prepare fertilizers from potassium sulfate, superphosphate and boric acid, diluted in 10 liters of water. Here you need to read the instructions and strictly observe the dosage so as not to overdo it with boric acid. Otherwise, the plant may develop a severe burn of the root system, and the rose will die.

Folk ways

Experienced gardeners recommend yeast feeding. It is prepared very simply.

To do this, take 10 g of dry yeast, 2 tbsp. l. sugar and mix everything well. Pour the dry mixture into a bucket of warm water. The infusion must be allowed to stand for at least 2 hours. After that, it is poured into a large container, adding another bucket of water. The solution is ready for watering. After you water the plant, it is imperative to sprinkle the ground around the rose. This is done so that the yeast solution cannot expel potassium from the soil where the plants grow.

Some gardeners bury banana peels under or near rose bushes. Everyone knows that it contains a high amount of potassium.

A lot of organic fertilizer is not required for rose bushes in the fall.

Wood ash is used, which is sprinkled on the earth around the roses. Some people prepare a solution from water and ash. It contains a lot of potassium and calcium, depending on which rocks it is obtained from as a result of combustion. Ash is rich in manganese, zinc and other trace elements.

You can also use rotted compost. It is laid out on the surface of the soil, without sprinkling with earth. It will decompose little by little, slowly transferring nutrients to the roots of the plant. You do not need to mulch the ground around the bush, humus will serve as that very mulch.

Do not forget that in the fall, in addition to feeding, you need to do pruning, hilling, pest control and shelter for the winter.
