On the shelves of stores, and in the home collection of seamers for the winter, there are cans that are closed with a twist lid. When it's time to open the container with the desired treat, a small problem arises - how to cope with the twisting "mechanism"? Simple ways will come to the rescue. A little warmth and effort
For one of the simple and effective ways to remove the screw cap from the can, you only need heat. Its source can be either hot tap water or a heated kettle. So, the jar will open easily if you put it under running hot water for 3-7 minutes. Heat will move the lid away from the glass surface more quickly. Removing it will not be difficult.
A similar mechanism will work if you put a jar with a seaming lid on a hot kettle or lower it into a saucepan with warm water (also with the lid down). Methods for opening a container with a treat using heat will keep the twist lid intact.
Knife, opener and screwdriver
Traditional preserves are rolled up hot in cans. This method allows you to preserve jams, marinades and pickles longer. After the contents have cooled down, a reduced pressure forms in the can. Due to this physical phenomenon, the lid is, as it were, pulled into the container, pressing more strongly against its rim. This is why it is so difficult to open screw top jars.
In order to cope with this task, it is necessary to let a little air into the container (equalize the pressure outside and inside the can). Then the twist lid will open with a slight movement of the hand. A solid flat object will come to the rescue - a knife, screwdriver, opener, as well as a spoon or fork. The edge of the aid slips under the rim of the cover. It is lightly picked in several places until a light cotton occurs. Everything! The twist lid is ready to open!
Important. Care should be taken if a knife is used as an aid to opening the can. Its sharp blade can damage the lid, as well as cut the skin of the hands (at least). In addition, excessive pressure on the knife leads to deformation of both its tip and to chipping of the glass rim of the jar.
We roll, push and knock
There are additional ways that you can unscrew the twist cover. But they require caution and calculation of the force of impact.
In order to open the can, it is rolled over a hard surface. But not all, but only the side surface of the lid. Light deformation will allow you to easily remove it from the can. Alternatively, use a wooden spoon or spatula. They roll (push through) the side of the lid (where it comes into contact with the thread on the bank).
Opening the container will help and clap your palm on its bottom. But this must be done carefully. Otherwise, instead of open conservation, you can get a cut on your hand. Excessive impact force or defective glass containers can cause the bottom to break. The so-called "rose" will turn out. Its sharp edges can easily injure the nerves, blood vessels and tendons of the hand.
It will be possible to unscrew the lid after pressing firmly on its middle. There is a lighter and less traumatic variation of this method. You just need to pierce the lid (a knife or opener is best for this).
