Which of the animals in the forest is the " evil and terrible" gray wolf afraid of?

Not a single person, perhaps other than a wildlife researcher, wants to meet in the forest not only a flock, but even an individual wolf. Although in most cases these animals still avoid humans, no one wants to check how well-fed or hungry the wolves are in the current season. Therefore, the wolf, for good reason, seems to man to be one of the most formidable animals in the forest. At the same time, few people think about the fact that in many regions of the planet, including in domestic latitudes, there are predators that pose an immediate threat to the "grays".

Today, in the canid family, the wolf is the largest predator. The body length of an adult, excluding the tail, can reach 160 cm, the height at the withers is 90 cm, and the body weight of a non-starving wolf in its prime is easily comparable to the body weight of a male man - 90-102 kg. Today, the main enemy of the wolf is man. The population of these animals is declining everywhere due to economic activities. Despite the fact that wolves are formidable gregarious predators, they also have natural opponents. Who, among other things, are not averse to feasting on a wolf bitten in a deadly duel. What kind of animals are they?

The lion may be the king of nature, but the real king of the forest is definitely clubfoot! In its "jurisdiction", it is the bear that is the absolute predator. In Russia, the "gray robbers" life is spoiled in every possible way by brown bears, and in the USA and Canada - by grizzlies. The bear significantly exceeds the weight of the wolf (Kamchatka brown bears weigh an average of 260 kg), which gives them a serious superiority in the fight. Clubfoot do not pass even in front of packs of wolves. Therefore, prey is often insolently taken away from wolf packs. Most often, wolves do not engage in serious fights with clubfoots. The only exceptions are those cases when bears find burrows with wolf puppies. Defending the brood, the wolf pack will rush at the brown intruder with all the madness and despair.

2. Lynx

The lynx is not the biggest forest predator. The males of these animals weigh from 18 to 25 kg, and the average body length of the lynx ranges from 80-130 cm. The lynx is not a natural enemy of the wolf. The taiga cat does not purposefully attack the "gray" ones. However, sometimes young lone wolves, defending their territory or experiencing hunger, attack the lynxes they meet. In most cases, a scuffle with a dexterous and resourceful cat does not end with anything good for wolves. Most often, it is the lynx that emerges victorious from the deadly battle. And with a dry count.

3. Tiger

The Amur or Ussuri tiger living in China and the Far East of Russia, in contrast to the phlegmatic lynx, does not by any means bypass wolves. In the cookbook of Russian Sherkhanov, wolves are one of the most popular dishes. One wolf has no chance to defeat a 3.8-meter, 250-kilogram monster. Tigers hunt individual wolves, attack burrows with a brood, and can even fight off a whole flock by sending a couple of wolf males to the dog god. Since the tiger is much more massive than the wolf, sometimes the fight can end for the "gray" after the first blow with his paw.

Big cats do not give life to dogs on the other side of the Atlantic. In America, cougars are the natural enemy of wolves. Mountain lions are noticeably larger than wolves: body length up to 190 cm, height at the withers up to 80 cm and an average weight of 110 kg. Most often, cougars hunt local deer, but on occasion they are not averse to biting off a captured wolf alone. True, unlike its distant overseas relative, the cougar still cannot compete with a pack of wolves. In most cases, American cats attack young wolves during the mating season.

The threat to the "gray robbers" comes not only from bushes and trees, but also from heaven. The golden eagle is a very large bird of prey. Its weight can reach 7 kg with a wingspan of 240 cm. Most often, golden eagles live on small animals: birds, rodents, and reptiles. However, in rare cases, hungry golden eagles do not shy away from attacking deer, roe deer, sheep and... wolves. It is noteworthy that this feature of birds is used by the indigenous peoples of Central Asia. Since time immemorial, local people have tamed golden eagles and used them as flying hounds for hunting wolves.

Wolverine lives on both sides of the great ocean. The representative of the weasel family, unlike most of the other animals described above, cannot boast of physical parameters. Usually their weight does not exceed 20 kg. Wolverines hunt small animals and birds, and also eat up the remains of the prey of other predators. Including wolverines eat up after wolf packs. But hunger is not an aunt. A hungry predator can attack much larger animals. There are cases when wolverines have piled up a moose. A pack of wolves is deadly for a fierce marten. However, a wolverine can easily "starve" and gnaw a wolf alone.
