An innovative demonstration of "power-to-power" technology, led by PNW Hydrogen, will receive $ 20 million in federal funding, including $ 12 million dollars from the Department of Energy (DOE) Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology Office (HFTO) and $ 8 million from the Department of Nuclear Energy (NE) energy.

Funding officially kicks off a demonstration that will bring together multiple stakeholders in research, academia, industry and state government.

At the federal level, these include the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) located in Idaho Falls, which is becoming a central point for research and developments in the field of nuclear integration, as well as the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) and the National Laboratory for Renewable Sources energy.

The Electric Power Research Institute, Arizona State University and the University of California, Irvine will also collaborate on the project. These organizations actively support the Energy Earthshots Initiative launched on June 7 by the US Department of Energy. whose goal is to reduce the cost of pure hydrogen by 80% to $ 1 per kilogram (kg) over the next 10 years.

Private partners for the project will be OxEon, a solid oxide fuel cell company, and Siemens Energy, a gas turbine manufacturer that invests heavily in decarbonizing gas energy and wants to produce powerful gas turbines capable of burning 100% of hydrogen in volume by 2030.

On October 7, the US Department of Energy announced that the project would involve the use of at least "6 tons of stored hydrogen to generate approximately 200 MWh of electricity."
