How to choose wallpaper for a nursery

Currently, many types of decorative coatings are used for wall and ceiling decoration. They differ in appearance, form of release, method of application and numerous properties that make them the best option for use in specific conditions. One of the most common coatings is still wallpaper. Especially when it comes to the children's room.

Safety of decorative coatings

The children's room is a special place in the whole house. The child will spend the most time in it, so you need to make sure that the created environment does not in any way affect his health. The composition of the wallpaper may contain far from harmless components that are released into the air throughout the entire period of use and can be harmful to health. Also, due to their qualities, they can create an unsuitable atmosphere for the child and cause big problems.

Paper wallpaper

They are still in demand and are perhaps the best option for a children's room. Of course, they have their drawbacks, for example, they fade in the sun and tear easily enough. Despite this, they have several huge advantages. First of all, they consist of paper, an environmentally friendly natural material to which the child will definitely not be allergic. At the same time, paper wallpapers are available in numerous designs, with different colors and prints, so it will be easy to choose them for each specific situation. Of course, they will have to be replaced over time, since they will begin to lose their appearance, especially in a sunny room, but this will still have to be done regardless of the type of wallpaper. Considering that we are talking about a child, and maybe several, the walls will quickly turn into a picturesque picture, consisting of stains, streaks from pens and felt-tip pens, traces from once pasted posters and other consequences of children's creativity. The fact that paper wallpapers are relatively inexpensive can save a lot on repairs.

Non-woven wallpaper

Flizelin is a cellulose-based non-woven material, so in terms of its qualities it is very similar to paper. This is a good option for a children's room, non-woven fabric is a durable and hypoallergenic material. Typically, a decorative layer consisting of paper, textiles or vinyl is applied to the non-woven nonwoven backing layer. It is on it that there is a beautiful drawing that later decorates the room. Of all types of non-woven wallpaper, wallpaper with a paper outer layer is suitable directly for a children's room. You can also use wallpaper designed for painting. This is a white non-woven fabric with a relief embossing, without a decorative layer.

The liquid wallpaper

They have become very popular lately. They can of course also be used like wallpaper in the nurserybut this is a little impractical. Liquid wallpaper is a textured mass consisting of natural fibers (cellulose or silk), adhesive, binders and decorative additives. Good wallpapers are quite expensive, so it will be a pity when traces from a pen and a pencil appear on them, and instead of cheap liquid ones, it is better to glue paper ones, the effect will be the same.

Vinyl wallpapers

This type of wallpaper has become very popular due to its qualities: long service life, huge selection and great durability. They can be washed and, if necessary, even painted. But they are completely unsuitable for a nursery. Although modern vinyl (naturally, expensive) is completely safe, it has an unpleasant property - it does not allow moisture to pass through. Water vapor condenses between the wallpaper and the wall, so fungus may develop over time.

Textile wallpaper

This is an expensive option for an expensive interior, but not for a child's room. The main problem here lies in the porous structure of the fabric: it can accumulate moisture, easily collects dust and serves as an excellent place for household mites to live. This is far from the best atmosphere for a child.

There are, of course, more exotic types of suitable wallpapers, for example, bamboo or from fiberglass, but for a children's room the best are those that can be easily, quickly and painless to replace.
