Tying plants in an open area

In order for the plants to develop well in the garden, it is necessary to tie them up, since:

  • long stems extend from the tied up bush, on which inflorescences appear later and vegetables are formed;
  • a shrub affected by a disease directs healthy shoots upward, thereby resisting the spread of infection;
  • the tied plant will occupy a smaller area in the garden;
  • convenient to harvest.

A culture in an open bed without tying up will not be able to release long shoots. Bushes thicken, rot appears on them, branches break off under the weight of vegetables, and cucumbers lose their shape and deform.

The main methods of tying plants in the garden:

  1. Horizontal. A rope should be pulled in several rows between the two supports installed along the edges of the cucumber bed. The young plant is attached to the lower support and fixed. The stems will stretch upward and the cucumbers will be easy to pick.
  2. Vertical. On opposite sides of the bed, two strong supports are placed and a string is pulled from above, to which the strings are tied and lowered down. How many bushes there will be, so many supports. Plants will begin to stretch upwards along the support.
  3. Garter net. A special mesh is stretched between the two supports, the stems will freely twist along the mesh sections.

Ways to tie cucumbers in a greenhouse

Greenhouse cucumbers also require a garter. In addition to the above methods, you can use some combined methods:

  1. "Blindness". The main shoot is tied to a support, the lateral stems with whiskers are removed, which are above the ground level above 50 cm. At the same time, the plant uses its forces to form cucumbers on the main vine, is less affected by diseases and does not cover the plantings located in the neighborhood.
  2. For polycarbonate greenhouses. The trellis is attached to the side of the greenhouse frame, having prepared it from old fabric by cutting strips. Short ribbons are sewn together. Thin branches are used as natural support. The upper part should be fixed to the frame, and the lower part buried in the ground.
  3. V-shaped way. With this method, the bush should be divided into two parts. Two strings are lowered from the top of the base of the greenhouse and the plant is tied up at the base. Then the main and more powerful stem is guided along the strings.

Garter plants in a greenhouse

In ready-made structures, "supports" already exist. Garter methods are the same as in a greenhouse. Basically, vertical tying is used. Shoots are attached to the top or pushed into the roof holes. With the help of a knot made on a twine, they tighten or loosen the tension. A ribbon is attached to the string for tying the plant. You can use the arches that are part of the greenhouse.

New and original methods of tying cucumbers

  1. Plastic containers. The stems can be secured with clamps made from plastic bottles.
  2. "Cucumber tree". With this method, the bush is formed into several stems and looks like a tree. The main shoot is attached to the support, and the side vines are pushed to the sides, while letting them go to the trellises. When female buds appear, the lateral shoots are carefully attached to the main one. The mustache from the main stem must be twisted around the lateral one, the remaining sprouts are removed when they appear.
  3. A barrel of cucumbers. If there is no free space on the site, you can use an extravagant method when planting. The seeds are planted in barrels filled with soil. Vegetables form on overhanging shoots and are easy to pick.
  4. Arcs. You can install plastic or metal arcs and stretch many twines along them, along which the stems will curl.
  5. Natural trellis. You can plant cucumber bushes along the fence. The stems will stretch up and wrap around the fence.

Is it possible to cultivate plants without tying

Cucumbers can be grown without a garter. But only in this case, the vegetables will be covered in dust, the garden will become untidy.
