What types of roses are suitable for propagation by cuttings

Not all garden queen varieties are suitable for autumn rooting. It is most effective to choose the following types of roses for this event:

  • polyanty;
  • miniature;
  • climbing;
  • some varieties of the floribunda group;

Hybrid tea, park and remontant roses can also be propagated by cuttings. However, their root system develops much weaker. These crops are more efficiently propagated by grafting.

Harvesting cuttings

For rooting roses, only ripe (lignified) shoots that do not have damage, traces of diseases and insects are suitable. In addition, each stem should have several vegetative buds (3-5 pcs.). In addition, the diameter of the segments cannot be thinner than a regular pencil.

Cuttings can be cut from shoots of any length. At the same time, in the upper part of the processes, I make a straight cut, and in the lower part, an oblique one. I completely remove the leaf plates remaining on the branches, leaving a small stump instead of the petiole.

Rooting in the open field

For this event, I prepare grooves with a depth of about 30 cm in advance and pour humus or compost into them. I spread the cuttings treated with a growth stimulator at an angle of 45 ° and cover them with soil. I compact the earth and water it abundantly.

Above the soil surface, about one third of the shoot with 1-2 vegetative buds should remain. So that they spend the winter safely, I cover them with cut-off plastic bottles. And I mulch the planting site with dry grass or fallen leaves.

Rooting at home

For this propagation method, you can use the lignified shoots left after pruning the bushes. Even the stems of roses from the presented bouquet will do. I prepare the cuttings in the usual way: I make a straight cut on top, and obliquely at the bottom. Then I process the stems with any growth stimulant and plant them in moist soil.

With this method of rooting, shoots can be placed in the ground in whole bunches, leaving a distance of about 1-1.5 cm between the shoots. For this I use a voluminous flower pot, which I cover with a plastic bag at the end of the procedure. After that, I put the container with cuttings in a dark, cool place.

Rooting shoots in potato tubers

Before planting, I make fresh cuts on the cuttings, after which I immerse them in an aqueous solution (1: 1) of honey or aloe juice to stimulate root formation. At the end of the 12-hour treatment, I insert each stem one by one into the potato tuber. In this case, all the eyes must be removed on the root crop in advance.

I place potatoes with cuttings in containers and cover them with nutritious soil. For irrigation, I use settled water at room temperature. Once a week I do a sweet dressing. To prepare it, add 2 tsp to a glass of water. l. Sahara. A cover made of film or agrofibre will speed up the rooting process of the rose.

It cannot be argued that rooting the garden queen with cuttings is the most effective way of propagation. This simple procedure requires strict adherence to the rules of agricultural technology - only a positive result depends on this.
