Spring is a great time of the year when the long-awaited warmth comes, trees and bushes dress in greenery. But for me in this wonderful time there is one significant drawback - construction. Every March I start a new construction project.
For example, this year I wanted the dacha to have a special place for barbecuing. I decided to lay out the place for the future barbecue and gazebo with paving slabs.
Since I have experience in construction, I decided to do it myself. But then I figured out how much time and effort I would spend, so I decided to call the construction team.
I explained to the contractor how in the end everything should look like, purchased the necessary materials and waited for the appointed day on which the builders were supposed to arrive.
The foreman of the builders, when assessing the scope of work, noticed a mountain of sand, which I ordered for laying the tiles. He stated that they would not need sand.
I was surprised, because I got the sand of good quality, sifted and washed. But, as it turned out, the builders did not need sand at all, regardless of its quality.
I am used to the fact that all paving slabs are laid on a cement-sand mortar. At least that's what they do in the South Urals, where I live. And I could not think that there are other options. The contractor "taught me how to live."
He stated that everything will be done to the highest quality. He also promised that the tiles will last for many years and gave a 10-year warranty.
According to the contractor's assurances, over time, the tiles will not start to fall apart, crack and crumble. I believed the builder, because earlier the same team laid paving slabs on the site of my neighbor, and he did not complain about the quality.
The contractor said that to replace the river sand, you need to purchase screening of fine granite. In addition, I bought herbicide powder. This additive has been shown to prevent weeds. The grass simply won't be able to take root under the tiles.
If we talk about river sand, then it is impossible to remove absolutely all weeds from it. Even after a dozen washes and sifting, seeds will remain in it. During operation, they will begin to break through the tiles. To be honest, it is very difficult to eradicate weeds. No matter how much I fight with her, she always appears again.
But in the screening out of granite, the grass will not grow. This material weighs more than sand. Therefore, when combined with cement, granite turns into a monolith.
And even this is not all the advantages of granite. Over the years, the soil may collapse or move. In this case, most of the load will fall on monolithic granite. To increase the strength of the dropout several times more, you can cover it with a net.
The builders did everything competently and beautifully. The tile keeps well and the weeds have not yet been noticed by me!
