When creating flower beds on my site, I try to achieve the effect of flowering longevity. But when planting perennials, external aesthetics are sometimes lost. To restore harmony to the flower garden, I use different techniques.

1. Resizing and configuring

A harmonious composition is created on the site if all elements of the landscape are correctly thought out.

If I feel that my flower beds are breaking the desired aesthetics, I make the necessary changes. I arrange narrow curbs along the paths, where I plant ground cover and low plants. Near the veranda or at home, I make clubs with a clearly defined outer edge.

Placing flower beds in open places, I try to adhere to their uniform shape. If the emphasis is on a round flower bed, then the rest of the flower beds acquire a smoothed configuration.

Sometimes the original decor of the flowering garden is lost when the plants grow strongly. In such a situation, if possible, I increase the overall size of the flower bed, pushing back the bounding structures around the entire perimeter.

2. Fence installation or dismantling

When cultivating perennials on a flower garden without a fence, after 2-3 years, the clarity of the outlines is lost. Such a solution is more common under plants in a near-trunk circle or on a lawn, This is due to the growth of plants, the appearance of weeds.

Given this possibility, when creating static flower beds, I often provide for the installation of low fences around the perimeter. I use a variety of available materials: bricks, tiles, wooden elements.

But sometimes an illiterately executed fence reduces the decorative effect of the flower bed. For example, excessively large cobblestones attract slugs and ants. Cracked boards, chocks, uneven pieces of slate look ugly.

In such a situation, I get rid of such materials. To give the flower garden a clear border, if desired, I purchase a special border tape.

3. Placement of decorative accents

When planning a flower garden, I pay attention to the presence of a central compositional element in it. It can be a decorative fountain, a large stone with an interesting configuration, a small garden sculpture, an artificial stream.

On one flower bed, one or two bright accents are enough, which, in terms of the main style and color, are combined with the main background of the flower garden and do not dissonant with the general landscape solution.

4. Moving plants to other locations

When planting plants, it is not always possible to give the flower gardens the necessary harmony. Sometimes, as they develop, you may find that some of them slow down the growth of nearby crops.

If I notice that when looking at my flower bed from the side it is impossible to see the beauty of each flowering plant, then I resort to transplanting them. I set aside the background for tall crops, and place lower and ground cover plants closer to the edge.

5. One color solution

With a large number of shades located on a modest limited area, a feeling of chaotic variegation is created. She doesn't attract the eye.

For a harmonious solution to the flower bed, it is enough to use 2-3 tones (bright or muted). More color combinations are acceptable when creating meadow compositions or popular Moorish lawns.

6. Taking into account the general style of the site

When planning a place for a flower garden, choosing its dimensions, configuration, general color background, I try to take into account the general style solution of the entire site.

The basic rules are that trees surrounded by flower fields are best combined with a log house. A Moorish lawn can be laid out near a miniature country house, on which bright platbands stand out. A large flower bed, designed according to the principle of continuous flowering, will look good. If a cottage has been built on the site, it is worthwhile to provide for exactly trimmed lawns next to it, break monophonic curbs along the paths, plant conifers.

7. Timely pruning

Over time, ornamental plants begin to grow. If these are perennials, then they gradually displace weaker neighbors. Bulbous crops spread especially quickly throughout the flower bed.

To preserve the original decor of the flower garden, by pruning in a timely manner, I limit the stretching of the fastest growing plants. I systematically dig up the bulbs and divide the bushes.

8. Weeding, the fight against excess shoots

A flower garden takes on a sloppy look if a large number of weeds appear on it. Dry lumps of earth covered with moss give a neglected look. Excessively growing perennials do not add aesthetics to the flowerbed.

To streamline and restore decorativeness, I systematically weed out weeds. Loosening, removing the rough soil crust. Timely cut out overgrown extra shoots of flowering crops

9. Fertilization

To maintain the decorativeness of flower beds throughout the growing season, I do not forget to feed them.

I use special universal complexes. I start the application in the spring season, and then, in accordance with the instructions, I repeat the required number of times.

10. Mulching

If I do not like the appearance of the flower garden, I correct individual errors with mulch. I use dry crushed lowland peat, which additionally serves as an excellent organic fertilizer. You can replace it with loose compost.

Decorative crushed stone scattered on the surface of the flower bed looks decorative. An interesting solution allows you to get the bark crushed into medium fragments. When choosing mulch, I take into account not only its decorative characteristics, but also the benefits for plants.

It is important to pay attention to the flower garden more often. This will allow you to make the necessary changes to it in a timely manner, aimed at maintaining a neat decorative appearance.
