All gardeners grow potatoes in their beds. They choose varieties with low disease susceptibility and high yields. Today we will talk about the Manifest variety, which was bred by Belarusian breeders. The culture has excellent characteristics and thanks to this, it quickly gained popularity.
Description of the plant
The variety is suitable for cultivation in the central, northwestern regions of Russia. They start planting potatoes from the end of May. The culture is grown on personal plots and on an industrial scale.
A plant with a mid-early ripening period of 90-110 days. Productivity is high: up to 13-15 potatoes grow on one bush.
The variety is resistant to potato diseases such as striped mosaic, black leg, leaf twisting, late blight.
Characteristics of plants and fruits
Bushes reach a height of 50-55 cm. Lilac inflorescences, crumble in 10 days.
Root crops are large with an average weight of 90-130 g, some specimens grow up to 150 g. The tuber is oblong with rounded edges. The skin is compacted with small reddish eyes. The surface is dark pink, the inner flesh is yellowish in color. Each fruit contains up to 13-14% starch.
Pros and cons of the Manifesto
Root vegetables have the following benefits:
- high rates of productivity and keeping quality;
- root crops are perfectly transported;
- do not deteriorate after mechanical damage;
- high content of nutrients and vitamins;
- excellent taste and presentation of potatoes;
- the rejection of vegetables at harvest time is quite low.
Like other varieties, the Manifesto has its drawbacks:
- needs high-quality nutrient soil;
- if the rules of agricultural cultivation are not followed, the yield decreases;
- the plant can be attacked by the potato moth.
How to cultivate
To obtain a rich harvest, you must perform sequential actions:
- Planting material must be prepared three weeks before planting. To do this, select undamaged healthy fruits and put them in spacious boxes. Place them in a warm place, the place should be lit. As soon as sprouts appear on the tubers, they need to be examined and the tubers should be left, on which several sprouts have formed. For fungal infections, root crops should be treated with a solution of copper sulfate.
- The plant can be cultivated in a vegetable garden or in a greenhouse. The soil should be loose with medium acidity. After harvesting the potatoes, they immediately begin to prepare the land. During digging, a mixture consisting of humus, peat and compost is added. In the spring, you can add complex products containing phosphorus, potassium and nitrogen.
- The tubers are placed in warm soil when the temperature rises to + 8-10 ° C.
Correct care
The main agrotechnical measures for successful cultivation:
- before planting, the soil is loosened to ensure sufficient air exchange;
- the distance between the bushes must be at least 60 cm;
- infrequent watering, three procedures will be enough: after planting, as soon as the tops grow up to 15 cm and during the flowering period;
- hilling after each watering;
- timely feeding: during the planting period, wood powder is added to the pits, and as soon as the tops are stretched to 12 cm, mineral fertilizers and organic matter are used for feeding;
- carrying out regular weeding as weeds appear, and it is also necessary to loosen the soil and huddle the plants;
- implementation of preventive treatments against pests and diseases.
Collection and proper storage of potatoes
The vegetables must be dug up in September, as soon as a dense rind is formed on the tubers. The crop is dried, sorted and transferred to the basement. The room temperature should not exceed +5 ° C. The Manifesto's keeping quality is reached up to 95%.
