The main task of the designer is to hear the customer, visualize his desires and translate all this into a language understandable for builders. Sometimes a specialist has to be a psychologist, a plumber, a realtor, and a bit of a magician.

Designer Evgeniya Astakhova told what complex requests clients come with and how she works with them.

There are few places, but a lot of things

I am sure many colleagues will agree that the most common problem is "there is not enough space, but there are many things." An experienced designer will offer several planning solutions at once. To prevent the apartment from being cluttered with wardrobes, we try to allocate space for storage rooms and dressing rooms whenever possible. Nevertheless, the solutions for each client are individual.

For example, a customer of mine asked me to place a foldable treadmill in a small studio apartment. For this purpose, we have designed a bed with a spacious storage compartment.

In general, it is advisable to consult with a designer at the stage of buying a home. A competent specialist will help you choose a layout, and sometimes save money. Imagine: you decide to choose cheaper housing in order to invest more in renovations. But after it turns out that it is impossible to combine the kitchen with the living room because of the gas stove, the wall that you wanted to dismantle is load-bearing, and all the pipes are rotten.

A professional would immediately draw your attention to this and advise you to choose another apartment, more expensive. As a result, by overpaying a little for real estate, you would have saved more on repairs.

Transfer of wet areas

Further in my personal rating is a request for the placement of wet areas far from the risers of water supply and sewerage. Once we were lucky enough to design a bathtub on an attached loggia! The client bought an apartment on the top floor overlooking the park. A tub-bowl next to the panoramic window in the bedroom was her dream. The nearest sewer connection was more than 10 meters away. The problem was solved together with plumbers. By the way, I note that it is easier to transfer wet spots in private houses than in multi-apartment ones.

"Designer, come up with!"

This is one of my favorite queries. Some clients bring references, while others want to create a completely new interior for ourselves - with such customers we talk for a long time about books, films, travel, hobbies and lifestyle in the whole. In the process of communication, you can find out whether the client likes bright colors or prefers natural motives, plans to hang out with friends often or prefers solitude, loves art deco or wants something brutal. What we manage to learn influences the future interior - colors, choice of textures, layout.

Request from the opposite

“I don’t want it the way it was with my / my parents in the old apartment.” More often, customers come with such a request, who equip their first home. Over the years, fatigue from the previous interior, and sometimes from the emotional background, accumulates. We figure it out, look at how it was, offer only new solutions - change the color scheme, get rid of from "grandmother's dressers", decorative items from the past and "herringbone" parquet, even if now it is relevant.
