Pepper is a rather whimsical plant that requires the right conditions during cultivation. In open beds, this culture manages to ripen only in the southern regions, in the rest, peppers need to be planted in protected ground. In a greenhouse, he will give a good harvest only if agrotechnical rules are followed. When and how to plant peppers, I will tell you in this article.
The timing of planting seedlings in the greenhouse
There is no exact date for boarding. I pay attention to the weather, temperature readings, the sun in order to choose the right time. This often happens in mid-May.
But there are universal requirements for planting seedlings in a greenhouse:
- Seedlings planted 60-70 days ago.
- From 10 leaves are already formed on the stems, and the plants themselves have a height of 25 cm.
- The temperature in the greenhouse at night does not drop below +10 degrees.
- The ground in the greenhouse has already warmed up to at least +15 degrees.
- If the greenhouse is located in the shade, then you need to plant later.
- Landing is carried out in cloudy weather or early in the morning.
Greenhouse and soil preparation
The greenhouse structure and the soil in it must be cultivated annually. Since autumn, it is imperative to remove and destroy all plant residues, since pest larvae and pathogens often hibernate in them.
Processing can be carried out:
- potassium permanganate;
- bleach;
- iron or copper sulfate;
- gray;
- coniferous infusion;
- chlorine-free bleaches.
But first, you need to ventilate the room, freeze it and wash the transparent coating. If repair of individual parts is required, do everything in advance. Only then is disinfection carried out.
You cannot save money for the destruction of parasites and fungi. It is necessary to treat each gap, since the health of the plants will depend on the quality of disinfection.
It is advisable to complete the care measures one month before using the greenhouse. Also, all work can be carried out in the fall.
At the end of cleaning, you need to fumigate the structure with sulfur. Fumigation is carried out in a respirator. After the procedure, the room should be closed for a day, and then ventilated for at least 2 days.
Pepper planting process
10-15 days before planting in a permanent place, I begin to harden the seedlings. To do this, I take them out into the street. At first I do it only on warm days. In recent days, I have already left the plants overnight.
2 days before planting, I water the seedlings with potash fertilizers and spray them with Bordeaux liquid. This will protect the seedlings from bacterial and fungal diseases.
Before planting in the garden, I prepare holes for each plant. The depth should match the height of the pots. I water the seedlings and let the water absorb. Then I transfer the seedlings into the holes along with an earthen clod.
It is important to know that during transplantation, the root collar of the seedling must not be buried in the soil.
Landing scheme
Even when choosing a variety, the size of the greenhouse should be taken into account. In low greenhouses, it is better to plant undersized varieties.
Bed formation:
- bushes of tall varieties should be at a distance of 30-40 cm from each other;
- undersized peppers are planted at a distance of 25 cm from each other;
- row spacing - 70 cm.
Watering
The culture requires regular and uniform watering. Even a short-term drying out of the soil will have a very bad effect on the condition of the plants. But waterlogging is also unacceptable. It leads to the appearance of rot on the stems and the root system.
During watering, care must be taken that water does not get on the leaves and ovaries. For a longer preservation of moisture, it is advisable to mulch the peppers. To do this, you can use straw, sawdust, small chips or agrofibre.
Water for irrigation must have a temperature of at least +20 degrees. Watering is carried out in the early morning or evening.
Top dressing
When growing peppers, fertilizers are imperative. At the beginning of growth, I add 1 sq. m 20 g of ammonium nitrate and 40 g of potassium sulfate and superphosphate.
During the growing season, the crop requires nitrates. Nitrogen is needed to build up green mass.
From the beginning of the formation of ovaries until harvest, the emphasis should be on potash fertilizers. Phosphorus is also required for peppers, but in small quantities.
You need to feed it every 2 weeks. The first feeding is carried out 10-12 days after transplanting to a permanent place.
