Good day, dear friends!

I decided to write this article after talking with one of my acquaintances. His name is Sergei, and he has been working as a carpenter for many years. During the dialogue, we touched on the topic of screwing in self-tapping screws. I complained that I did not know how to neatly hide the caps of the screws. Sergey shared with me an interesting method that I now use successfully.

Today I decided to tell you about this method too! I think that many people will find it useful.
A carpenter friend showed in secret his way of masking screws in a tree. I have never seen such a method!

Previously, I did the following: I sunk the self-tapping screw into the tree, having made a countersink for this in advance.

Then I covered the screw cap with putty. If you do this too, write in the comments. Let's see how many of us are like that!

This method seems to be universal, but it has certain drawbacks.

After listening to my story, Sergei invited me to his workshop. He said he would show me a new method of "masking" the screws.

One of the last orders that Sergei took into work was the manufacture of decorative wooden boxes. I took one of these boxes in my hands, turned it over and saw how skillfully the screws were hidden in it.

At the same time, Sergei assured that he did not use putty.

The principle of the method, which was told to me by an experienced carpenter, is as follows:

  • 1. First you need to glue a piece of electrical tape to the drill, stepping back about 7 millimeters from the edge of the drill. Note that we are talking about an 8 mm drill bit for wood.
  • 2. Then we drill small holes in the tree. The insulating tape in this case will act as a limiter.
  • Thanks to the stop, all holes are of the same depth, they look very nice and neat.
  • 3. Then we screw the screws into the holes obtained, connecting the parts. It seems to be nothing new. We also embed the screw caps into the wood. This begs the question: "What is the uniqueness of the method?"
  • 4. And here's what! We take ordinary furniture dowels, as well as PVA glue. We coat the dowels with glue, after which we install them on top of the “recessed” screw caps.
  • 5. You need to wait a bit until the PVA dries. Then we cut off the dowels and carefully walk along the board with sandpaper to smooth out all the irregularities and protrusions.
Ready! You can evaluate the result! In my opinion, it turns out just fine. If you take dowels of a suitable color, then they will not stand out at all against the background of the tree. But that's not the point. Circles of a different color will add zest to the product and make it unique.

I think this information will be useful to someone and come in handy in life!
