Not always and not everyone succeeds in growing a healthy and useful product right away. But if you follow certain rules, this can be achieved. Let's talk today about how to properly care for garlic. If you do everything right, then the garlic will not turn yellow, but will delight you with a rich harvest.
Reasons why garlic turns yellow
- Garlic may turn yellow due to the fact that the snow is melting, but there is still frost. In this case, it is recommended to treat it with a growth stimulant. These products can be purchased at a specialized store. Do well with this task, for example, "Zircon" or "Epin".
- Usually in the spring it happens that the soil is not enriched with nutrients, which means that your garlic has nowhere to take nutrients from. Therefore, if you notice yellowed dry tips in your plant, then you need to use top dressing. During this period, garlic needs potassium and nitrogen.
- Garlic can also dry out and turn yellow due to lack of moisture. Be sure to water it at least once a week. In dry and hot weather, watering should be done once every 5 days.
- Ash or dolomite flour can help with acidic soil and regulate the pH level.
How often do you need to feed garlic?
If you adhere to a certain scheme, then you will definitely succeed. Your plant will be fragrant with health.
You can start feeding within a week after the last snow melts.
Then, already in the first half of April, you can also use fertilizers. But remember that at least two weeks should pass after the first feeding.
The third top dressing is best done in May, mid-end of the month. This is a very important stage - the formation of the heads.
It is worth feeding the garlic in the first half of June.
On a note: if your site has a sufficiently fruitful soil, then you do not need to spray it with nutrient formulations. But fruitful feeding will not be superfluous at all if your region has bad weather conditions or clay soil.
Important: always pay special attention to feeding and in no case overdo it. Otherwise, you can spoil the soil, it will become too acidic, an alkaline bloom will appear, and the plant may simply die.
What is the best way to feed garlic in spring?
Mineral fertilizers
Mineral fertilizers should be applied in the spring. This is very important, since the soil is depleted, and after watering, useful nutrients are washed out of it, which are so necessary for the growth of garlic. During this period, you can use both complex fertilizers and one of the important components for growth: phosphorus or nitrogen. Nitroammofosk, urea, nitrophoska will do their job well.
Organic fertilizers
You will immediately notice the results from these substances. Such fertilizers are very readily available. You don't have to spend money on them. This is important for those who grow large quantities of garlic. This is also important for those who love everything environmentally friendly and do not want to purchase chemical compounds. You can use bird droppings, wood ash, liquid mullein.
Folk remedies
If you do not want to resort to purchased formulations, then you can easily use folk remedies. Eggshells, yeast, ammonia, saline, etc. are good fertilizers.
