Cucumber is without a doubt one of the most beloved vegetables. Longing for crisp greens for the winter, we want to get the first harvest as soon as possible. Thanks to the work of breeders, now we can taste the first cucumbers a month and a half after sowing. However, it is very important to choose the right variety, which would correspond in its characteristics to the climatic zone and ripening time.

Today I want to talk about 10 of my favorite varieties of cucumbers: both time-tested and recently bred.

Vyaznikovsky (1937)

One of the oldest hybrids that have not lost their popularity. A bee-pollinated variety with good cold tolerance. Can be planted in May under the film. The lashes are small (up to 1.2 m in height), strong. The yield is high. Fruits of the same size, tasty with firm pulp. They are well stored and canned.

Muromsky 36 (1943)

A very hardy variety that has passed through the years. It grows almost throughout Russia both in open ground and under a temporary film cover. Ultra ripe - the first fruits may appear in a month. Central whip of limited growth (no more than 1.5 m). The plant is compact; it forms few lateral shoots. The yield is average, but the variety is valued because of the very tasty pulp of cucumbers, suitable for use in any form.

Nezhinsky (1947)

Cucumbers of this variety do not have too high yields, but are valued for their exceptional taste and pickling qualities. Needs pollination by bees, therefore not suitable for greenhouses. But on the other hand, it is hardy to cold and drought, so it grows well in the open field in mid and southern latitudes.

Altai (1977)

Cold-resistant and very hardy variety of ultra-early ripening (from 30-32 days). The bushes are compact, up to 1.2 m in height, with few shoots. Fruits up to 14 cm in length with dense pulp and few seeds. Suitable for salads and preservation. Stored very well.

Spring (1979)

Very hardy to weather and disease variety. Ripens in 40-45 days. It needs additional pollination, therefore it is grown in the open field. The main lash can reach 3 m, but does not form many shoots. Cucumbers are formed at each node. Fruits with a smooth surface and very tasty crunchy pulp. They are good for salads and for any kind of preservation.

True friends (2000)

A bee-pollinated and very resistant variety. Grows well in the open field of the middle lane. Begins to bear fruit 35-40 days after sowing. Refers to "bundle" hybrids - from 3 to 10 cucumbers are formed in internodes. The lashes are of medium length, no more than 2 meters, there are few lateral shoots, so it is quite easy to care for. Cucumbers are approximately the same size, up to 10 cm in length. The pulp is tight with a pleasant cucumber taste.

Boy with a finger (2000)

Parthenocarpic (self-pollinating) bundle variety with high cold resistance. It grows well both in greenhouses and in the open field. Zelentsy are elastic, up to 10 cm in length. Covered with thornless light thorns. Begins to bear fruit from the 35th day. It is famous for a large number of fruits ripening at the same time on lashes.

Cupid (2000)

New early maturing parthenocarpic hybrid with high productivity. It feels very well in the middle lane and manages to give a high yield even in the Siberian latitudes. It grows both outdoors and in all types of greenhouses. Feels great at home on the windowsill. With additional lighting, I got fruits for the New Year's table. Very early (from 35 days) and fruitful (up to 15 kg in one month of fruiting). Can be used for pickling, but tastes better in salads. Almost no side shoots, while the main whip bears fruit. Cucumbers up to 15 cm with dense pulp.

Madame (2007)

An amazing variety pollinated by bees. Quite thermophilic. In more southern regions, it grows in open ground. The first fruits appear on the 40-45 day. They grow in bundles from 3 to 6 fruits. The variety is unique, suitable for salads and preservation. The pulp is tight, the dimensions are the same, no more than 10 cm. When preserved, they keep their shape well.

A bee-pollinated variety with a high yield (up to 14 kg) and excellent taste. Grows well in mid-latitudes under any film cover. Growth is unlimited, so it is better to pinch the top. There are few side shoots. Fruits of a bundle type, up to 6-8 in one node. The cucumbers are small, 6-8 cm long. Can be used in any form.

Hopefully these varieties will help you get your earliest first harvest of cucumbers.
