We all love juicy and sweet peppers. Most of us grow it on our plots and know that with good weather and competent agricultural technology, the crop yields an excellent harvest. But what if brown spots form on the green mass and fruits?
In today's article I will talk about the causes of this phenomenon, as well as methods of dealing with it.
Why do pepper stains form?
I'll start right away with the good news: more often than not, the problem with the appearance of stains lies in improper care, which means that we can well influence this. But it is worth knowing that such spots are rapidly growing and spread to the fruits, therefore it is important to detect the problem in time and take action as early as possible.
So, most often the spots appear for the following reasons:
- Damage by diseases and pests. In such a situation, the most reasonable solution would be to create conditions that are unfavorable for the spread of pests and infectious agents. If you notice spots of a brown or whitish hue on the pepper bushes, most likely the plant is affected by late blight, cladosporium, bacterial spot or apical rot. Bacteria and fungi provoke such diseases. Among the effective methods of control is the use of strong chemicals.
- Deficiency of nutrients in the soil, most often it concerns nitrogen. If the plants lack this element, their growth will be inhibited, and yields will suffer.
- Illiterate watering, and both the lack of moisture and its excess negatively affect the plants. Ideally, the beds should be moistened to a depth of no more than 70 centimeters.
- Thickening of plantings, this problem is especially relevant for greenhouse plants.
Get rid of stains
When we have noticed the problem and identified the cause, it's time to start treatment. Most often, methods for solving the problem are reduced to treating plants with different groups of drugs:
- Strong chemicals that should be used with extreme caution and instructions must be followed carefully. In the wrong concentration, such agents lead to the accumulation of nitrates in the crop, and sometimes to the death of plants.
- Biologics are a gentler but less effective option. The advantage of using such funds is that they do not accumulate in crops and improve the immune defenses of plants. Among the shortcomings, it is worth noting the rapid adaptation of bacteria to such drugs, so the funds have to be changed frequently.
We select the drug according to the problem
Many years of experience in the use of ready-made preparations and prepared formulations have shown their effectiveness against specific diseases:
- So, you can overcome various types of spotting with the help of preparations containing copper. The most popular are "Hom" and "Oxyhom".
- In the fight against most insects, including the Colorado potato beetle, pesticides will help. It is important to remember that it is strictly forbidden to use such drugs during the flowering and fruiting period of crops.
- If the pepper is affected by apical rot, treatment with a solution of milk of lime will help to cope with it.
- Against sclerotinosis, it is effective to use a mixture of fungicidal preparations and lime.
- Against late blight it is worth choosing "Gamair" or "Quadris".
- Alternaria can be cured exclusively with complex action fungicides.
Remember, the effectiveness of each drug will depend on the correct use and compliance with the dosage. So, some drugs can be good for prevention, but in a neglected case they will already be powerless. Other drugs, on the contrary, are pointless to use for prevention, but for treatment, they will be an excellent solution. The frequency of treatments always depends on the specific disease and the stage of its spread.
And most importantly, in order not to face problems, do not forget about proper care and be sure to disinfect the planting material.
