Metal - wherever you spit, it is everywhere! And everything connected with it costs a lot of money... I was glad that I finished building the house from building materials, which I managed to purchase at the old prices before take off in value, but on the improvement of the courtyard, the shops on me are good made some money!
After the construction, I still have scrap metal and profiled sheets, which I successfully passed for acceptance yesterday, but handed them over for only 800 rubles, but I bought 82 kg of metal from the inspectors for as much as 3000 rubles! I walked for 40 minutes, choosing what I needed:
Here, I put it together :-)))
"Why do I need this?", - you ask!
I'm telling ...
This summer, my family and I went on an excursion to St. Petersburg and on the second day of rest, walking along Nevsky Prospekt, we accidentally wandered into the basement (catacombs) of the Petrikirche church. There was an exhibition of interesting things made of metal ...
Incredible beauty!
I got into a conversation with one of the authors of the products, we talked for a very long time and he told me what was done and how. Later I found out that this style is called "techno-art" or "art-metal". These are such trends in art, when crafts are assembled from a heap of technical details and mechanisms - assembled in different ways: it can be in a chaotic manner, or you can assemble a whole mechanism that performs an aesthetic function ...
Everything is created by welding ...
It became very interesting to me and for the sake of experiment I did a small thing - a cup holder!
First, I took the dimensions and made a template:
After that, I found in my workshop a bunch of dusty unnecessary pieces of iron and etched away the rust in acid, and removed the residual grease with a solvent (degreased):
From these details, I made a shape that repeats the glass. I welded all the elements in a chaotic order:
After that, I cleaned it thoroughly, dipped it in a solvent, applied a primer and painted it in chrome.

Of course, you can use it as a cup holder, but it's inconvenient! Hard! The product performs more an aesthetic function, in fact, I needed it only in order to practice and understand the very principle of working with metal! I never thought that anything worthwhile would come out! But, wrong... I think it worked out very well for the first time.
Let's go back to my gears, why did I get 3 thousand of them !?
Friends, techno art is not only trinkets like the one I made! The following tables can be made from gears and gears:
... or animals:
The cost of the product itself depends on the author's greed and can vary from 200 to 10,000 rubles per 1 kg. It all depends on the cost of the varnish, on the cost of spraying, on the size, on how long it takes to corrode the rust and wash off the oil and grease from the mechanisms. I spent 1.5 days on my cup holder (2 kg.). With good skills of a welder and an artist (designer), I think not so much time is spent on figures!
Investments at the first stage are as follows:
- Welding machine ~ 10,000 rubles.
- Assorted paints and varnishes ~ 2,000 rubles.
- Metal: gears, bolts, nuts, wire, bearings - the more the better (~ 10,000 rubles)
- Engraver (mini drill) ~ 8,000 rubles.
- Vise, wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, bolt cutter ~ 4,000 rubles.
At the initial stage, investments are very insignificant, but more creative ideas are needed!
What do you think about such a business idea?
