Variety characteristics

I fell in love with the Duckling tomato because its pulp is rich in vitamins, minerals and other usefulness. This is a real vitamin bomb for strong immunity.

This variety, bred by domestic breeders, is famous for its medicinal properties. It is ideal for baby and diet food. And eating it is also an excellent cancer prevention.

There are varieties of Ducklings and other advantages:

  • a wonderfully sweet taste that both adults and children are delighted with;
  • instagram viewer
  • beautiful orange color and interesting oblong shape of fruits with a characteristic nose;
  • small size of tomatoes (weight - 60-90 g);
  • good keeping quality and transportability of fruits;
  • versatility of use (these tomatoes are good fresh, in salads and canned preparations for the winter, they are also suitable for obtaining juice);
  • the possibility of growing both in open areas of the garden, and in a greenhouse;
  • unpretentious care (low-growing bushes of the Duckling variety, whose "height" does not exceed 0.7 m, do not need to be tied to supports and shaping);
  • the ability to grow well in both warm and temperate climates;
  • the ability to harvest in July, since the variety belongs to the early ripening variety of tomatoes;
  • simultaneous ripening of fruits on the bushes;
  • strong immunity (bushes are extremely rarely affected by late blight and other diseases of tomatoes).

The only drawback of this variety, in my opinion, is its low yield. From 1 m² of planting, I harvest only 2-3 kg of tomatoes.

How I Grow Tomato Duckling

I sow seeds for seedlings at the end of March. First, I immerse them in a potassium permanganate solution (1% concentration) for half an hour to disinfect. Then I rinse the seeds in clean water, wrap them in gauze and leave them on a saucer with warm water for 3-4 days for germination.

I grow seedlings in peat cups. This technique allows me to do without picking seedlings, provides painless transplanting them to the garden bed.

I bury the germinated seeds in the soil by 1.5-2 cm. I cover my landing with polyethylene and leave it warm. After the sprouts have hatched, I rearrange it on the sunny window.

I spend the first watering of seedlings 7 days after sowing. I use the water that is settled, slightly warm. With irrigating the soil in pots of seedlings, I advise you not to be zealous. Waterlogging is highly undesirable.

After 20 days after sprouting the sprouts, I make the first top dressing. To obtain a nutritional mixture, I take the following ingredients:

  • potassium sulfate - 3 g;
  • urea - 1 g;
  • superphosphate - 8 g;
  • water - 2 liters.

Next, I fertilize the seedlings once a week. As a top dressing, I use the same composition, as well as yeast infusion and ash water.

In mid-June, I transplant the grown and strengthened seedlings into open ground, adhering to the 40x60 cm scheme.

Please note that the soil for growing the Duckling must be fertile: rich in potassium, phosphorus and nitrogen.

Further care for planting tomatoes is simple. It will need to be watered, fed, loosened, weeded on time.

I water it every 3 days. I spend 15 liters per 1 m² of planting.

After absorbing moisture, I must loosen the soil, which I combine with the removal of weeds.

Once a week, stepson bushes. This gives them more light and better ventilation.

I feed the landing three times:

  • mullein solution (700 g per 10 l) - 14 days after transplanting to the garden;
  • superphosphate dissolved in water (1 glass per 10 l) - after the flowers appear on the second brush;
  • mullein solution, to which he added complex fertilizer (75 g per 10 l) - when the first fruits ripen.

This variety of tomatoes is not very susceptible to diseases, but prevention should not be neglected. For this purpose, I process the planting with boric acid dissolved in water. If I notice that the bushes are suffering from attacks of spider mites or slugs, I treat them with a biological product or a folk remedy like garlic infusion or soap solution with the addition of ash powder.

As you can see, there is nothing difficult in growing these remarkably tasty and very healthy tomatoes. I advise you to follow my example - to plant Duckling tomatoes in your country house. They will surely please your household.
