A rare gardener does not plant tomatoes on his plot. If climatic conditions permit, then tomatoes can be planted not only in the greenhouse, but also in the open field. In this case, one of the obligatory care methods is the garter of tomato bushes.
It is necessary for:
- maintaining the plant during fruit ripening $
- keeping ripe tomatoes at a certain height from the soil, as the fruits may be on the ground and will be thoroughly spoiled $
- the convenience of root feeding, so as not to hurt leaves and tomatoes with fertilizers.
Garter methods
There are slight differences in the binding of tomatoes in the greenhouse and outdoors.
- Tomato bushes in open ground are more susceptible to weather conditions, so the garter supports should be stiffer. Peg binding is considered a great way. I recommend placing such supports 30 cm above the bush. Tied to them with synthetic materials closer to the top of the plant, adding garters as the bush grows.
- If possible, cages are built individually for each bush, but this is done for tall and spreading varieties of tomatoes.
- Tapestries are also a good way to tie up. They are placed at the right distance from each other, which depends on the width of the beds, and a wire is pulled horizontally between them. I advise you to make the distance between the wire 35-45 cm, and tie the tomatoes to it.
- An interesting solution to the garter is a metal, rigid, coarse mesh. It is very convenient to fix plants on it, moreover, such a structure creates a decorative look in the garden.
- The linear method consists in installing two stakes along the edges of the garden bed and pulling a rope on them, to which the tomato bushes are tied.
- Caps made of four rods. Created for four bushes (one rod for each bush), and the structure is tied with wire at the top.
Decorative garter methods
You can tie up tomato bushes and other, unusual methods:
- with the help of hoops, you can create an interesting and no less durable structure, which will also be a decoration of the garden. To do this, you need to take three poles, make a pyramid out of them and fix them. Then put on this structure three hoops of different diameters. The bushes should be attached to the hoops with plastic clips so as not to damage the plants;
- with the help of two coarse-mesh metal meshes, a V-shaped structure is made with an expansion at the top. The bushes are attached to different sides of the structure, thereby holding it back.
The correct garter is the key to a good tomato harvest. I recommend that you take this procedure very seriously, since it is one of the most important in caring for tomatoes.
