The apple tree is rightfully called the native of the garden. High-quality and timely care for the tree is a guarantee of an abundant harvest of delicious apples, which are saturated with valuable trace elements, vitamins and other useful substances. Choosing the right variety is very important! After all, each of them has its own characteristics that must be taken into account. Today, the undemanding Orlinka variety is held in high esteem among gardeners.
Description of the variety
The trees have a large and round crown. The straight branches of the apple tree do not interfere with nearby growing trees, they do not take up much space. The ends of the branches are directed upwards. The bark of the trees is dark gray and has a smooth surface on the trunk. The leaves are somewhat elongated, as well as pointed edges. Medium sized apples with wide ribs.
There is a small layer of waxy coating on the surface of the apple, which gives it a glossy shine. After ripening, the fruits acquire a rich green color, and during consumption - light yellow. Most of the fruits are covered with red stripes. Subcutaneous points are rare. The variety is characterized by short and curved stalks. Seeds are small in size and light brown in color. The juicy pulp of cream-colored fruits is dense, with a large granular structure, sweet-sour and delicate, pleasant aroma.
Pros and cons
The main advantages of this variety include the following points:
- high yield;
- rapidity of growth and fruiting;
- good quality apples;
- frost resistance;
- fruits and leaves are scab resistant.
Orlovka is not afraid of either frosts or blizzards.
The disadvantages include a relatively short ripening period for fruits on trees. This can negatively affect the taste of apples.
Pick-up location
Orlinka needs sunny and well-lit places with fertilized soil. Loamy soil is best suited. When choosing a place for planting, it should be borne in mind that the roots of an apple tree do not tolerate stagnant water, so it is best to choose an elevated place with drainage.
Before planting an apple orchard, you must first think over a plan for placing all trees on the territory so that, having matured, these trees do not interfere with the growth of other trees. Apple trees should not compete for a place in the sun. Plant trees at least 3 m apart.
What is needed for landing
First, you need to buy a two-year-old seedling. The root must be healthy, the buds are well developed, the trunk is at least 2 cm thick, with branches 50 cm long. Choose a tree with well-positioned branches. To preserve the seedling, it must be placed in a cool place and then wrapped in a damp cloth.
To plant a seedling, the following materials and tools are required:
- shovel;
- forceps;
- twine for tying;
- ash;
- humus;
- urea.
Landing
It is necessary to dig a hole, make an earthen mound and put a seedling in it. Next, you need to drive in a peg and tie an apple tree to it. I put a peg on the southeast side, tie it with a rope. I tamp the soil and water it with 3 buckets of water. I carry out mulching of the trunk circle. I make a layer of humus mulch about 5 cm.
Apple tree care
After planting, the apple tree must be watered 2 times a day. Later they switch to watering once a day. A mature tree is watered once a week. The root zone should be weeded regularly and in no case should other plants be planted on it.
In winter, they additionally protect the tree from frost with mulch or wrap the trunk with covering material. By covering the lower part of the apple tree, you can avoid damage to the trunk by hares and mice. Pruning is done every April. In a young tree, only weak branches are thinned out. In adult trees, branches are cut that have gone down to the ground.
The yield of one tree is quite high - 160-180 kg. Apples can be stored for up to 40 days.
The fruits have an amazing taste, and the apple tree itself is unpretentious when grown. What varieties of apple trees grow on your site? Share your experience.
