These varieties of black currant are winter-hardy, therefore they are widely used in many regions of Russia. These varieties were bred at the All-Russian Research Institute of Lupin. This variety belongs to the early ripening varieties.

Selechenskaya

Currant bush of medium size, not very sprawling, has dense foliage. Leaves of a pronounced green color of medium size. The flowers are not very large, pale.

The berries are large, with a juicy sweet pulp, round in shape. One fruit can weigh up to 5 grams. The berry has a large green stalk that easily breaks off without leaving any wet traces. This variety was highly appreciated, 4.9 points out of 5 possible.

Selechenskaya 2

The bush of this currant is very large, it can reach a height of up to 2 meters. The branches are predominantly brown with a slight gray tint. Young shoots are green. The leaves are dark green.

When the currant blooms, it has reddish-purple flowers. The fruits are large, bright, juicy, sweet. The weight of one berry can reach 5.5 grams.

The black currant variety Selechenskaya 2 can survive at high temperatures, up to +35 degrees. Please note that the fruits of the Selechenskaya 2 variety are slightly larger than those of the Selechenskaya variety.

Features of growing and care

Currant bushes can be planted both in spring and autumn. However, the optimal time is considered to be the beginning of September. During this time, the bush will have time to root well and get stronger.

When choosing seedlings, pay attention to the bush, it should be free of mechanical damage, have a sufficient number of buds, and not have dry roots and branches. Saplings can be both annual and biennial.

When choosing a place for planting currants, keep in mind that it is better to plant it on the south side, but along some kind of fence. The plant does not tolerate direct sunlight and strong winds. The soil for planting should be neutral acidity or slightly acidic.

Be sure to level the ground before planting, there should be no depressions or bumps.

If you decide to plant currants in the fall, then three months before that you need to apply a little fertilizer. Organic fertilizers are commonly used. To reduce the acidity of the soil, you can dig up limestone.

To get a good harvest, currants need full care. These are procedures for the correct watering of the plant. When the bushes are still young, it is necessary to feed the plants on time.

The place near the bush must always be kept clean, do not allow the development of weeds, especially in the trunk circle. Loosen the soil regularly, but do it carefully so as not to damage the root system.

It is advisable to mulch the hole, this will help to forget about weeds for a while and retain moisture in the soil.

Don't neglect cropping either. To form the correct bush, pruning must be carried out in the first three years. It is usually done in late autumn or early spring. Dry currant branches can be removed at any time of the year.

Be sure to inspect the plant for pests and diseases. Although Selechenskaya and Selechenskaya 2 have good immunity, nevertheless, spraying with special solutions should be carried out regularly.

Harvesting is carried out in July, but it usually takes place in several stages. If we talk about the indicator of the average yield of the bush, then it can reach one and a half kilograms, and sometimes a little more.
