When propagating currants, the cutting method is the best and most effective. Many gardeners are sure that this procedure simply has no analogues - it is so good. By cuttings in a season, you can grow a large number of new seedlings, which will quickly begin to bear fruit. This method is so successful and convenient that it will be a real crime not to tell you about it.

First of all, you should carefully select a good planting material. In this case, the time at which the landing will be made is always taken into account. The spring procedure requires stalks with stiff bark, but in the summer, young green twigs are better suited.

Annual shoots are taken as a basis, which are cut in late autumn or early spring. I successfully combine the spring cut of planting branches with the general pruning, while selecting branches from the most delicious and fruitful bushes. Good material should be at least 6 mm thick and at least 15 mm long. The upper cut goes 1 cm above the kidney, the lower one - 1 cm below the other kidney, both cuts are made obliquely with a sharp instrument.

I usually plant cuttings in early spring - the sooner the better for the shrub.

To do this, since autumn I have been preparing the beds, which I painstakingly dig up to the depth of the shovel blade and fertilize them with rotted manure and compost. By spring, the soil in such trenches is well saturated with nutrients and melt water, so planting cuttings in them is a pleasure.

When planting, I maintain a distance of 15 cm between bushes and 40 cm between parallel rows. With this planting scheme, the growing shoots will be comfortably looked after, and then transplanted. I use a long cord to stay in line.

When mulching, I try to use peat and humus, as they protect currants better than other materials. At the same time, I make layers at least 5 cm.

If you want to cover young bushes even more reliably, then you can take dense transparent or black polyethylene. For greater convenience, a wide sheet of film is taken, in which holes for shoots are cut.

The transplant of mature berry bushes is carried out in the fall, but if the currants did not have time to get stronger, I advise you to leave it in place until next season.

If in the spring it was not possible to start planting berries, then the procedure can be carried out in the summer. However, in this case, it is necessary to take green young shoots for planting not woody stems. The planting material should be elastic and bend well. It will be necessary to grow young and fragile shoots in greenhouses or under film shelters. In this case, it will be necessary to maintain a noticeably high humidity. Many gardeners use plastic large cut bottles or large transparent jars as mini-greenhouses. Such currants will be able to bloom and give the first harvest the next season.

I cut green twigs for planting in cloudy weather or early in the morning. The length of the stems should be at least 10 cm, on the "body" of the seedling there are 3-4 strong leaves. I cut the shoots in the same way as the woody ones, observing the distances to the upper and lower buds. I always try to act carefully to avoid a ragged edge.

To accelerate growth and strengthen before planting, I keep the planting material in a growth stimulator for a day. I plant cuttings to a depth of 2-3 cm. Green shoots are more capricious, for the first couple of weeks they need to be sprayed several times daily to improve strengthening and carefully shade from direct sunlight. In addition, nitrogen additives are introduced into the soil, the number of irrigations is reduced to a minimum and high humidity in the greenhouse is maintained. After a month, the plants should be hardened by removing the covering film or airing the greenhouse. After the bush is completely secured, the shelter can be removed completely.

Cutting currants is a reliable way to propagate a berry plant. Try it, you will definitely succeed.
