Plum is one of the most unpretentious fruit trees on my site. With a little care, it gives a high yield. I planted several varieties, but I especially wanted to highlight one called Stanley.

Description of the variety

The tree reaches an average height of up to 3 m. The crown is not very thickened, round in shape. Shoots are dark purple in color with small cone-shaped buds. They are covered with rounded gray-green leaves with a glossy surface.

Stanley starts flowering in May. During this period, the tree is covered with large snow-white flowers.

I harvest at the stage of biological maturity, in August. They are large, rounded, slightly elongated, dark blue in color. The skin is thin, with a strong waxy coating.

One of the advantages of the variety, which I noted, is the tender, juicy, sweet flesh of a yellow-green color. The bone is not large, it can be easily separated.

Advantages and disadvantages

During the cultivation of the Stanley plum, I noted a number of advantages of this variety. I would like to draw your attention to the following:

  • high yield annually;
  • unpretentious care;
  • frost resistance;
  • immunity to polystygmosis and shark.

In addition, fruits harvested at the stage of technical maturity are subject to long-term transportation.

But there are also some disadvantages:

  • medium resistance to drought;
  • susceptibility to moniliosis and plum aphids;
  • demanding on the composition of the soil.

I use Stanley's harvest to make compotes, preserves and jams.

Choosing a seat for landing

Stanley is unpretentious in maintenance, but in order to get a high yield, I recommend paying attention to the choice of location. The plant prefers an area with good, uniform lighting, protected from strong winds. The occurrence of groundwater is at least 1.5 m. The soil must be fertile, with neutral acidity, it must conduct water and air well.

Features of the selection and planting of a seedling

I would like to draw your attention to the fact that seedlings with an open root system are planted exclusively in the spring. At the same time, I prepared the landing pit in the fall.

I also recommend buying a seedling responsibly, paying attention to the following:

  1. The plant must be strong, healthy, with a well-developed root system.
  2. Shoots, trunk and roots should not show signs of rot or fungal diseases.
  3. The branches must be elastic.

Stanley is a partially self-fertile variety. Therefore, I planted other pollinating varieties on the site, thus increasing the yield.

Of the pollinating varieties, I advise you to pay attention to the following:

  • Chachakskaya;
  • Bluefrey;
  • Voloshka;
  • The president.

How to prepare a site

As I said, I prepared the site for planting in the fall. For this he carried out deep plowing and carefully selected plant residues.

Fertilizers per 1 m2:

  • superphosphate - 10 g;
  • potassium sulfate - 80 g;
  • dolomite flour - 500 g.

I dug a landing hole in the spring. Depth - 60 cm. Diameter - 70 cm. A layer of expanded clay drainage was poured onto the bottom. Then he filled in a mixture of peat, humus and soil, placed a seedling.

Nearby I stuck a wooden stake and fixed the tree. I covered it with earth and carefully spilled it with water. The root circle was additionally mulched with peat. Straw will also work.

Care

Stanley is an unpretentious variety. The main care measures are:

  • watering (during a drought period, it should be abundant);
  • top dressing;
  • pruning.

In conclusion, I want to say that the main advantages of Stanley are unpretentious care, high yields from year to year, resistance to weather fluctuations and frosts. The fruits ripen quite large, juicy, sweet and tasty.
