I constantly use greenhouses of various designs when growing crops on my site: from what and how do I collect them

Being carried away by gardening, every season I definitely build a greenhouse on my site. And even not one. Moreover, these are greenhouses, differing in design, adapted for growing different garden crops. They are united only by the general principle of design and use. Any greenhouse is a small cultivation structure consisting of a box and a removable transparent or translucent cover. Unlike a greenhouse, which requires entry to care for the plants, the greenhouse is maintained outside. At the same time, the seedlings planted in it are no less reliably protected from cold and drying out.

While experimenting, I set up greenhouses both in the ground version and in the buried one. The last option is good because less materials are required to build such a greenhouse. However, its disadvantage is that sometimes after rains a lot of water can collect at the bottom, which is not absorbed into the soil for a long time. Therefore, now I give preference to ground structures. And, in fact, it is not so difficult to make such a greenhouse.

I make its frame (strapping) from plastic arches or wood. Depending on the size of the greenhouse, I make one or more removable covers for it, which I attach to the back wall using door hinges. And sometimes, in order not to waste time installing the hinges, I screw a pair of ordinary door handles to the frames and, when I need to ventilate the greenhouse, just grabbing them, I remove the lid and put it next to it.

You can choose a place for a greenhouse, in principle, any, because it does not have a foundation. But I always build it in an unshaded, well-lit area of the garden. Indeed, in addition to heat, the crops planted in it also need light.

I position the greenhouse so that its higher back wall is on the north side. With this arrangement of the greenhouse, its inner space will be illuminated by the sun's rays throughout the day.

The greenhouse helps me to extend the garden season. I use it from early April to late autumn. In the spring I begin to grow early garden crops in it, in the fall - late cold-resistant crops. It is very convenient to grow home-grown seedlings in a greenhouse in the spring.

General arrangement of my greenhouses

In the spring, when the soil is completely thawed, I dig it up, covering the compost. I build a greenhouse at the selected place, for which I use:

  • several boards and planks;
  • dense translucent plastic wrap;
  • door hinges;
  • fasteners (screws, nails, corners).

If all the materials are available, then it takes me an hour and a half to assemble the greenhouse structure:

  1. I cut a wide, thick board diagonally (these will be the side walls).
  2. With the help of screws, I fasten them to the ends with thinner boards, which will serve as the front and rear walls of the future greenhouse.
  3. I knock down a frame corresponding to the size of the body from thinner boards, picket boards.
  4. I completely cover the frame with a film, which I attach to it with the help of strips. It turns out a cover.
  5. I connect the rear wall of the case to the cover with door hinges. The lid should be easy to open and close, while tightly, almost tightly adhering to the body. Distortions must not be allowed.

Of the tools you will need: a screwdriver, a hammer, a screwdriver.

Sometimes, when there is not enough time, I build greenhouses of a simpler design, without side walls. I take a thick wire or thin reinforcement, cut them with a "grinder" into rods of the required length, bend them with arcs, then I stick it into the ground along the edges of the garden bed and cover it with plastic wrap on top, which I press along the edges bricks. If you need to ventilate the greenhouse, I just fold back the edge of the film during the day. In case of recurrent night frosts, I cover it with straw mats or thick cardboard sheets.

Today it is difficult for me to imagine my garden without a greenhouse. Already at the end of March or at the beginning of April, I sow vegetable seeds in it, which grow and develop much faster than those that will later be planted in open ground, and, accordingly, much earlier I get from them harvest.
