Lack of natural light is a common problem in studios, trailers and apartments, the windows of which do not face the sunny side. To solve it, you can resort to visual tricks.

What ways will help increase the amount of natural light, the designer said Natalia Balashova (artELLE - design).

7. Light finish

It's no secret that light colors are capable of reflecting light, while dark ones absorb it. That is why a bright room will be perceived as more illuminated than a dark one.

So for walls and ceilings in a poorly lit apartment, you should choose white shades - they will do the job best. It is also preferable to make the floor light. Dark flooring can be covered with light carpet. And to subconsciously make the interior more sunny, add yellow accents - decorative pillows, posters on the walls.

6. Glass partitions

To zone the space, it is better to use clear glass or glass blocks. They will not interfere with the penetration of natural light, unlike blank walls made of drywall or foam blocks.

Glass railings can be used to isolate a bedroom or let in more light into a corridor devoid of windows. If privacy is required, you can add a curtain to the partition.

5. Mirrors

Perhaps the main helpers in enhancing natural light are mirrors. An impressive effect can be achieved by positioning them perpendicular to the window. Two reflectors on the sides will increase the illumination by 25%.

Mirror slopes will be an unusual and very effective solution. Some modifications can be done independently, for example, using self-adhesive mirror mosaics, which can be found on foreign sites.

4. Reflective surfaces

Glossy surfaces that can also reflect light can be an alternative to mirrors.

This can be marbled porcelain stoneware, metal cabinet fronts or a glossy backsplash in the kitchen. The glare on them will illuminate the room from the inside.

3. Clean windows

In order for the room to receive the maximum amount of natural light, the windows must be clean, both literally and figuratively.

Smudges and dust on the glass will obstruct light penetration. As well as tall flowers at the window. Sometimes, in order to illuminate a room, it is enough just to clear the window sill of things.

2. No curtains

Fabric curtains on the sides of the window will take in some of the natural light. To avoid this, you can use roman blinds or blinds.

Roller blinds with blackout function cope with blackout just as well as curtains. You can also use the now fashionable blinds that open like an accordion.

1. Access to the window without obstacles

Make sure that the window is visible from anywhere in the room. Access to it should not be blocked by cabinets or shelving, otherwise some of the natural light will be lost. The "down-to-earth" furniture will help to achieve the maximum effect, it is better if it is below the windowsill or on the same level with it.
