It is almost impossible to create an interior that will not become obsolete over the years. But you can make a design so that it is easy to change and modify over time.
How to achieve this, the designer said Victoria Ivanova.
7. Neutral base
To create a versatile interior, you should choose the most relaxed wall decoration - monochrome wallpaper or paint for most of the space.
This does not mean that all walls and ceilings must be painted in only one color - you can play with shades and midtones. But it is better to bring bright elements at the expense of textiles or decor items.
6. More free space
You shouldn't force every free corner in the apartment. Over time, the confusion will only grow.
Due to the clutter, it will be difficult to find small imperfections. In the end, the only way out is to change everything at once.
5. Mixing styles - eclecticism
To make the interior easier to adjust, it should not be made strictly in the same style. Some stylistic trends popular in the past are no longer relevant today, they are being modified, for example, the Art Deco of the beginning of the 20th century and the current New Art Deco are not at all the same thing.
This will make the interior more variable. To modify the picture, it will be enough to remove the elements of the auxiliary style and replace them with those that are in trend now. It is better if 80% will be devoted to decoration, and 20% to furniture, textiles and decor. Some mixes have already taken shape in separate styles, for example, Japanese-Scandinavian japandi.
4. Quality finishes and plumbing
A high-quality finish is essential for a versatile interior. Better to invest more in a good paint and hard-wearing flooring right away. Otherwise, a global renovation may be required in a year or two, which means that the meaning of the concept of an easily changing interior is lost.
The same goes for plumbing. Inexpensive faucets and pipes quickly deteriorate, and subsequently new repairs may be required not only for you, but also for your neighbors.
3. Natural materials
Furniture made from natural materials is always in trend. First, the eco-agenda is unlikely to ever cease to be relevant, given the situation in the pollution of the planet.
Secondly, even if over time the furniture becomes outdated, it will not turn into rubbish, but into antiques. They are restored, the upholstery is changed, after which they are sold no cheaper than new furniture. There is a real hunt for such items on Avito.
2. Simple shapes
Furniture of simple shapes is much easier to update by simply changing textiles or accessories. Like the neutral finish, it is more of a background role.
Whereas laconic scandi models will take root in almost any interior.
1. Periodic update of parts
To make the interior easier to modify taking into account new trends, it is worth periodically updating some details. For example, innovations can be introduced into lighting design - by adding a portable floor lamp to the reading area or replacing the sconce. The dimmers can be used to change the light intensity.
Alternatively, you can try replacing light pieces of furniture and decor, such as chairs or tablecloths.
