Improper plant care

Most often, gardeners are faced with the problem of the disappearance of tomato seedlings due to non-compliance with certain agrotechnical rules.

lack of moisture

Tomato shoots need a lot of water and light. In their absence, they begin to wither. Tomatoes are poured from a spray bottle. The soil in the seedling box should always be moist and loose. If you waterlogged the soil, the tomatoes may also die. Therefore, it is necessary to make as many drainage holes as possible and reduce watering.

lack of moisture

This is also a common reason why seedlings can wilt. If the soil is too dry, the seedlings will begin to wilt and the leaves will turn yellow. You can fix everything with proper and regular watering.

high air temperature

When growing seedlings indoors, this is one of the common causes. Therefore, it is forbidden to put boxes with seedlings near batteries and heaters. They should be placed on well-lit window sills or shelving.

Presence of drafts

No seedling likes drafts. Therefore, when airing the premises, it is important to ensure that they are not in the room.

Too dense crops

When planting tomato seeds, I always make sure that they are not too close to each other. Otherwise, it will slow down the growth of sprouts and lead to a lack of nutrients in the soil. When the third leaf appears on the tomatoes, I always plant them in separate containers. Since too densely sown seedlings will be lethargic and weak.

If the tomatoes wither and wither in the greenhouse

Sometimes I am faced with the fact that strong and healthy tomato seedlings grown on a windowsill begin to die when transplanted into a greenhouse. This happens for the following reasons:

  • too early transplantation of seedlings;
  • high air temperature in the greenhouse;
  • the presence of harmful larvae in the soil;
  • damage to the root system of tomatoes during transplantation.

To prevent the death of seedlings from pests, I try to treat the soil from pests and infections. To regulate the application of liquid, I use a drip irrigation system. With it, it is almost impossible to waterlog the soil.

As you can see, there are a lot of reasons why tomato seedlings can wither and fall. The main thing is to try to provide tomatoes with the right conditions for active growth, and prevent the appearance of diseases and pest attacks. Then you will harvest a bountiful harvest from your healthy and strong bushes.
