When growing tomatoes in my greenhouse and outdoors, I'm always on the lookout. This culture is prone to a large number of diseases, especially in closed spaces. Therefore, I carry out preventive treatments for tomatoes without fail.
Since tomatoes are eaten straight from the bush, I do not abuse chemical remedies. For myself, I found an excellent biological drug that only positively affects tomatoes - "Fitosporin".
What is "Fitosporin"
"Fitosporin" basically contains spores of hay bacillus. It is a type of aerobic soil bacteria. Bacteria of this species have a remarkable ability to destroy pathogenic microflora. However, they do not cause any damage to plants, even in large quantities.
In the course of their vital activity, bacteria improve the microflora of the soil, and also act on fungi that infect the plants themselves. "Fitosporin" is a biofungicide.
Since the period of active action of "Fitosporin" is limited, I carry out regular treatments with the drug in order to maintain the number of beneficial bacteria at an optimal level.
In what form do I use "Fitosporin"
"Fitosporin" is available in three main forms:
- powder;
- paste;
- liquid form.
The composition of the drugs are almost identical. There are more humates in the paste, which act as an additional fertilizer and growth stimulator.
I prefer to use "Fitosporin" in the form of a paste. First, I prepare the mother liquor. I dilute the paste in half a liter of warm water and mix thoroughly. This solution is further used for the preparation of working fluids.
Now on sale there is "Fitosporin" for tomatoes, which contains boron and molybdenum. These trace elements allow plants to better absorb calcium and regulate nitrogen metabolism. Ultimately, this affects the taste and quality of tomatoes.
How do I process tomatoes with Fitosporin
For tomatoes, I begin to use Fitosporin at the seed stage. I add a teaspoon of stock solution to a glass of water and soak the seeds for a day. This process decontaminates the planting material and saturates the seeds with humates for a quick start.
I also spill "Fitosporin" soil for tomato seedlings. I dissolve one teaspoon of stock solution per liter of water. If "Fitosporin" is in powder, then I take the proportions from the manufacturer's instructions.
At the stage of growing seedlings, at least once a month, I water the soil and spray the plants with Fitosporin solution. Before planting seedlings in the greenhouse, I spill the greenhouse beds with the preparation.
Be sure to spend spraying tomatoes in the greenhouse before fruiting. "Fitosporin" fights well against phytophthora, which often affects this crop.
Processing is carried out at a temperature not lower than 10 degrees, otherwise the activity of beneficial bacteria is sharply reduced. "Fitosporin" is sensitive to the sun, so I work on the sheet only in cloudy weather.
I also do not mix Fitosporin with other biological and chemical preparations. They can destroy the hay stick.
After harvesting the last crop of tomatoes and harvesting tomato bushes, I spend the last watering with Fitosporin of the season.
Thus, the drug has been my faithful assistant in the cultivation of tomatoes, and other crops, for several years now. It is affordable and harmless to use. With significant disease damage, it is ineffective, so I carefully follow the schedule of preventive treatments and prevent the development of fungal diseases.
