Rosa Scarlet is a well-known variety, bred over a hundred years ago. Through the efforts of the breeder, a low unpretentious bush with numerous flowers turned out. The flowers are small, but with their number and expressive dark ruby color, they look very impressive. Such a bush grows near my gazebo, spreading a delicate aroma during flowering.
Variety Description
An unpretentious rose bush has the following characteristics:
- height 50-60 cm;
- blooms with tassels;
- frost-resistant in mild climates;
- has immunity to diseases;
- no pruning required.
The unpretentiousness of this variety is that it grows well both in the sun and in partial shade. Both fertile soil and sandy are suitable for it.
The followers of the breeder William Paul, who bred Scarlet, introduced several more varieties of this rose.
Meyandekor
This is a semi-climbing rose that looks like a fountain and blooms in waves without interruption all summer and autumn. Up to 10 semi-double flowers bloom on one peduncle. Under their weight, the shoots bend almost to the ground. A bush bred in France grows up to one and a half meters.
The rose does not require pruning, but I shorten the bush so that it does not take up too much space, since it has a large growth force.
Groundcover Scarlet Bonica
This ground cover rose appeared shortly before the present in France. Dense bushes up to 90-100 cm high during flowering are strewn with medium-sized roses, connected in inflorescences of 3-5 pieces.
Paul
The rose, bearing the name of the progenitor, blooms with bright crimson flowers with a diameter of about 6-7 cm. In one brush 3-5 pieces. Flowering is short in early summer. The bush is tall, loves sunny places. Rose does not require special care, not susceptible to disease. Long lashes (up to 2.5-3 m) are used for decoration.
scarlet heat
This is essentially a dwarf variety up to 60 cm high, bred in Denmark, suitable for edging borders. Small cherry blossoms bloom without interruption.
Benefits of Ground Cover Roses
For ground cover roses, in my opinion, it is easier to care for. What are they good for:
- Ideal for panoramic landings.
- Unpretentious.
- Tolerant of mechanical injury.
- Differ in strength of growth.
- They have a bright and sophisticated look.
- Bloom for a long time. Sometimes the leaves are not visible because of the flowers. The plant looks like a red carpet.
- They have a high resistance to disease.
- Frost-resistant. In the middle lane, shelter for the winter is required.
- Do not lose their decorative qualities in partial shade.
Caring for Scarlet Roses
These roses do not claim special attention, but they need some minimum care for lush flowering.
Watering
Once a week (and in the heat 2-3 times) I water under the root. A bucket of water in the morning or evening is enough for one plant.
In autumn, I reduce watering, during the rainy season I do not water at all, so that fungal diseases do not appear.
top dressing
In spring and in the first half of summer, I apply nitrogen fertilizer under the bushes: a solution of mullein and ash. You can add nitroammophoska and urea.
In the second half of summer, bushes need phosphorus-potassium fertilizers to prepare for winter. I use superphosphate and potassium sulfate.
If necessary, I practice foliar feeding on the sheet.
pruning
If you want to get a tall bush, I spend pruning that stimulates the growth of shoots. After flowering, I cut out clumsy and diseased branches.
Luxurious roses always look like royalty. Groundcovers are not that difficult to grow, and continuous flowering is a good motive for planting them.
