Primrose I like long luxurious flowering. Her seedlings in nurseries and on the market are quite expensive, so I try to sow primrose myself. To get viable plants, you have to follow all the recommendations of experienced gardeners.

The term of sowing works is determined in accordance with the instructions. I plant self-harvested seeds in February.

Preparatory stage

I select molds about 5-7 cm high for sowing primrose. I make sure they have drainage holes. I use small pots, cups (plastic and peat), cassette containers. As well as peat briquettes and tablets.

If you have to sow in common seedling boxes, then the sprouts must be dived after the formation of 2-3 leaves.

The soil requires fertile loose and slightly moistened. I usually use ready-made substrate.

If required, then I independently combine crushed soddy soil with well-rotted leaf humus and medium-fraction river sand in equal proportions.

For disinfection, I scatter the soil mixture on a dry baking sheet, making a layer of 1.5 cm. I warm up at +120 in the oven for 45 minutes, and then cool. I fill the containers, carefully grinding all the large lumps.

To disinfect the seeds, I immerse them for 20 minutes in a solution of potassium permanganate with a concentration of 1%. Then I rinse and dry the grains, spreading them out on a thick cloth napkin. Enough 30-40 minutes.

Stratification

To ensure friendly seedlings, it is necessary to carry out a stratification procedure after disinfection. I'm looking into the information about the variety I'm using beforehand. This is important, as some varieties do not require stratification.

Action algorithm:

  1. I spread the seeds on a saucer, which I keep on the windowsill for 2-3 days.
  2. Then I evenly distribute the planting material into the seedling container over the surface of the moistened soil.
  3. I wrap it with a film and keep it for 5 days at room conditions. During this time, the grains will swell, but will not hatch.
  4. I put the container in the refrigerator for 10 days.
  5. I place the nursery in a well-lit, warm place.

As soon as sprouts appear, I immediately begin to ventilate a miniature greenhouse every day. I remove the shelter after the formation of 2-3 leaves, when the time comes for picking.

Sowing seeds in peat tablets

When using tablets or briquettes made from pressed peat enriched with microelements useful for plants, a soil substrate is not required. Sowing can be carried out without going through the stratification stage with disinfected seeds. Seedlings with this technology do not need picking.

Pre-fill the briquettes with slightly warmed settled water. After they swell, I plant 2-3 grains.

Care rules

Primrose seedlings are watered by spraying when the substrate dries from above.

For picking from common containers, I water seedlings with 2-3 leaves. After 1-1.5 hours, I dig up fragile plants with a small spatula and move them with an earthen clod into prepared molds filled with loose soil mixture.

I feed at intervals of 7-8 days with liquid fertilizer recommended for indoor crops.

I transplant in June, when stable warm weather is established. I prepare a flower bed in a bright place, providing for light shading at noon from the burning sun.

Primrose seedlings can be grown independently if the sowing is done correctly and the necessary conditions are created for the sprouts.
