When growing eggplant, many are faced with the fact that leaves fall on plants. This can happen for various reasons. That is what we will talk about today.
Why do blue ones shed their leaves
Eggplant leaves can crumble due to:
- lack of nutrients;
- poor watering;
- diseases, pests;
- non-compliance with agricultural technology.
Bad ground
If the plant was originally planted in soil that was unsuitable in composition and not saturated with useful microelements, it will show this by dropping foliage. Blue ones are planted in well-fertilized loose loams.
Due to temperature difference
Blue ones are heat-loving plants. Therefore, they are always planted on the beds of seedlings. If planted too early (when the threat of night frost has not passed), the plants will simply shed their leaves or die completely. For good growth and development of blue ones, the temperature at night should not fall below +15 degrees.
Due to lack of nutrients
This is also a common reason why seedlings can shed foliage. I recommend feeding blue ones at least three times a summer with mineral complex fertilizers. For the first time, I also feed with nitrogen so that they build up a green mass. The second or third time during the formation of ovaries and fruit ripening. To do this, I use phosphorus-potassium fertilizers.
Due to improper watering
Eggplants are very fond of water, and in the absence of watering, they begin to shed their leaves. It is best to provide them with drip irrigation. But if this is not possible, I recommend watering the plants as soon as you notice that the topsoil is completely dry.
Due to diseases
The blue ones are quite often exposed to diseases such as:
- late blight;
- fusarium wilt;
- spotting;
- mosaic.
As a result of diseases, various spots appear on the leaves of the seedlings, and then they curl and fall off. The problem is solved by using special preparations.
Due to pests
Also, blue ones are often attacked by insects:
- aphids and thrips;
- Colorado beetle;
- whiteflies;
- spider mite.
Some insects on seedlings can be seen with the naked eye, while others are almost invisible. I also propose to solve the problem using special purchased products or old proven folk methods.
What to do if the blue ones shed their leaves
If you notice that the little blue ones in the garden have become lethargic, they have a sick look, and they shed their leaves, you need to find out the reason. To begin with, determine whether the plants have enough water, nutrients, and whether they suffer from sudden changes in temperature. If this is a problem, then you need to either water the seedlings more often, or add mineral additives to the soil, or cover the bed with polyethylene at night. If the problem is diseases and pests, treat the beds with special preparations.
Prevention of dropping leaves in blue
As a prevention of dropping foliage in eggplants, I always:
- I strictly monitor the irrigation regime;
- timely apply fertilizer to the soil;
- I inspect and periodically treat plants with preparations for diseases and pests.
If you follow all the recommendations I have described above and properly care for the crop, then you will not encounter such a problem as dropping leaves from eggplants.
