Eggplant is a rather capricious plant, and ordinary irrigation from a garden hose with tap water is unacceptable for him. The liquid should be moderately soft, warm and settled. Gardeners often collect water in buckets or adapted garden barrels for this particular vegetable and leave it for several hours in the bright sun, so that they can irrigate it in the evening. In cold weather, water is defended indoors.

I also advise you to install an open container on the site as a rainwater reservoir - in terms of its structure, it is ideal for eggplants, since it has:

  • acceptable softness;
  • there are no harmful impurities and chlorine;
  • suitable temperature.

Irrigation Features

Solanaceae have two requirements for irrigation: the regularity of the process and the uniformity of the water supply. In greenhouses, they are easy to perform, since the weather forecast does not affect the situation in the greenhouse. It is important to monitor the drying of the soil and maintain adequate moisture. The usual schedule for watering greenhouse eggplants is once every five days, but I note that in hot weather the earth dries out faster even in a greenhouse, so procedures should be increased up to 3 times a week. Adult plants need up to two liters per stem, young shoots - from half a liter to a liter. I recommend that when irrigating with a stream of water, try to get under the root of the stem.

Watering methods

There are several comfortable methods for watering eggplants in a closed garden:

  • garden watering can;
  • drip system;
  • through the hose.

A watering can will come to the rescue when there is no special equipment. The method is very popular among gardeners, it does not require a water supply, it is very mobile, light and well suited for those who have small greenhouses on the site. It is better not to fall on the leaves to avoid sunburn. Morning or evening is the ideal time for the procedure.

Watering from a hose is dangerous because the water is at a low temperature when supplied, and a strong flow can harm the roots. To avoid unpleasant situations, I advise you not to connect to wells or wells, and also to install a diffuser at the end of the hose.

The drip system is considered the most suitable for eggplant. To install it, you need to purchase a set of spare parts in special stores, assemble the structure and connect it to the water supply. In principle, the device itself is an artificial rain, which perfectly meets the needs of a capricious vegetable.

I will also note the temporary features of eggplant watering:

  • during flowering adhere to the standard schedule, tracking the increase in "portions" for growing bushes;
  • during the fruiting period, watering is increased up to 2-3 times a week while maintaining the volume;
  • with rapid drying of the soil, mulching should be carried out;
  • it is important to carry out regular ventilation.

If you follow all the necessary recommendations, then watering eggplants will turn into an easy event, and a plentiful harvest will please you in the fall.
