Beautifully flowering roses are present in almost every flower garden. They not only decorate personal plots, but also fill them with a pleasant and rich fragrance. In this article I will tell you how to properly feed the "garden beauty" for lush and abundant flowering, and when is the best time to do this.
Features of feeding roses with urea in spring
Many gardeners, including myself, often use urea to feed outdoor flowers. This is due to its availability (easy to find in any garden store) and reasonable cost. Urea contains more than 40% nitrogen, which favorably affects the growth of green mass in plants. It is nitrogen that is so important to plants in the spring, and in the fall it is not applied.
The benefits of applying urea in the spring
The main benefits of fertilizing roses with urea include:
- quick effect;
- acceleration of flower development;
- long-term effect;
- slow dissolution in the soil;
- prevention of diseases and pests;
- increase in the number of buds;
- increasing plant immunity;
- longer flowering.
Terms of application of urea for roses
I use urea as a rose fertilizer for a certain period. Otherwise, there will be no result from top dressing. It should be noted right away that the introduction of urea into insufficiently heated soil will also be a waste of time. Fertilizers are applied depending on the climatic conditions of residence. In doing so, attention is drawn to:
- warming up the soil up to 10 cm deep;
- absence of night frosts;
- the appearance of signs of vegetation on the bushes.
How to dilute urea
For the effective action of urea, it must be properly diluted. I use it both as a root dressing for roses and as a spray.
Root top dressing
Here I use both dry powder and diluted. The main thing is to loosen the near-stem circle well so that oxygen enters the roots. Dry top dressing I spend in rainy weather. To do this, small indentations are made in the root circle, and granules are poured into them. Next, the soil is leveled. But diluted fertilizer is applied only in dry weather. Urea is diluted 30 g per 10 liters of water. Under each rose bush, I pour about 1 liter of the prepared solution.
foliar top dressing
Urea is also well suited for foliar feeding, that is, for spraying bushes. For this, it is diluted: 20 g per 10 liters of water. I carry out foliar feeding in the early morning or evening. But in the hot daytime, this can not be done.
The effectiveness of urea against diseases and pests
Urea is known to gardeners as a good prophylactic against the appearance of diseases and pests on rose bushes. In this case, it must be used in early spring. If you apply urea in the summer, it can cause burns on the leaves. To combat various insect larvae, it is necessary to prepare a solution of 60 g of urea diluted in 10 liters of water. With this composition, I spray the shoots and water the near-trunk circle.
Tips from experienced gardeners
I, like many gardeners, have long noted for myself the beneficial qualities when using urea as a fertilizer for roses. But here it is important to adhere to the following tips:
- urea is used only in well-moistened soil. Otherwise, it will simply burn the roots of plants;
- spraying bushes in rainy weather will not bring any results;
- urea is used only as a spring fertilizer, and before the onset of winter it cannot be used;
- it is important to strictly observe the dosage of the drug indicated by the manufacturer;
- in order to prevent a chemical reaction, the fertilizer is diluted only in plastic or glassware.
Summing up, I want to note that with the regular application of urea in the spring, you can expect elegant and abundant flowering from roses. This tool is also useful in the fight and prevention of diseases, pests and increases the resistance of roses to negative environmental factors.
