I regularly put manure under the currant bushes in the spring season. Its benefits are explained by the presence in the composition of phosphorus, a large amount of nitrogen, potassium and a variety of trace elements important for the development of berry bushes. As a result, fertility increases and the soil structure improves. This has a beneficial effect on the formation of large juicy berries and an increase in yield.

Types of manure

I use a variety of organic matter when feeding currants. I can note the following types of manure:

  • Bird droppings. It can be duck, chicken, pigeon. I get this kind of dried. The most affordable chicken manure. It saturates the soil with many useful compounds, increases the resistance of the shrub to fungal infections. I dilute it 1:15 with distilled water. Spring consumption - 10 l / adult bush. For young plants, I reduce the rate by half.

  • Horse dung. When dried, this nutritious species is light in weight. When fresh, I do not use it to protect the roots from burns and not cause excessive growth of weeds. I leave manure for 2-3 months for maturation, and then I breed 1:10. I want to note that I use this type mainly in the last decade of September.
  • Rabbit manure. It is considered no less nutritious than bird droppings. Well absorbed, does not contain weed seeds. I apply it during planting, pouring a half-liter jar of organic matter directly into the hole. I also use it in the spring for watering currant plantings. For this purpose, I stir 2 kg of rabbit manure in a 10-liter container with water. Before use, I dilute the concentrate 1: 5.
  • Cow dung. This is the variety I use the most. I breed mullein 1:10. I water the bushes in the spring.

Spring feeding rules

I practice feeding currant plantings with manure during the period when the buds begin to hatch. This happens around the middle of April.

I spread the rotted manure on the surface of the soil under the bushes. I make a layer about 10 cm high. The result is the saturation of the earth with nutrient compounds. Since manure simultaneously plays the role of mulch, the benefit also lies in slowing down the development of pests that have laid their eggs in the surface soil layers for the winter.

At the end of May, I prepare a liquid nutrient infusion based on bird droppings (1:15) or mullein (1:10). I water currant bushes.

I use granulated manure whenever possible. This is a convenient form, which, in terms of the content of all nutritional compounds, is not inferior to the original raw material.

I scatter the granules on previously loosened earth in tree trunks. The norm is 1-1.5 kg / 10 m2. Then, with the help of a rake, I close up the fertilizer in the soil. After this operation, I water the bushes.

It is possible to prepare a nutrient suspension based on manure granules. I focus on the dosages indicated on the packages with this type of organic. It does not cause problems during storage, does not litter the ground with grains of unnecessary grass. All the necessary proportions for breeding are in the instructions, which allows you not to make a mistake.

In the spring, I feed currant bushes with natural fertilizers, preferring manure. I use fresh composition only for the preparation of infusion. For unfolding in trunk circles, I take only rotted manure.

I wonder if you use this method of feeding berry bushes? Tell us if you manage to increase yields by applying manure in the spring.
