Urea is a mineral fertilizer that is used almost everywhere in the garden. Due to its composition, carbamide is indispensable for the growth and development of the green mass of plants. Currant urea is necessary for the root system to develop properly, and the shoots to be strong and hardy.

Processing currants in spring

Urea contains up to 60 percent nitrogen in dry crystals. Nitrogen helps the plant to establish and maintain protein compounds, it is also indispensable in the process of photosynthesis.

I regularly treat currant bushes with a solution of carbamide in the spring, when the plant cells are just waking up. This helps to achieve good greenery and future harvest. I also carry out treatment with a solution of urea and copper sulfate. This is an excellent pest control. After such top dressing, not a single pest will come close to the currant bush.

What happens if you do not use urea?

Ignoring spring feeding can lead to:

  • plant diseases;
  • growth inhibition or wilting of young currant shoots;
  • low yield;
  • infection with fungi and parasites;
  • shedding of berries.

Lack of nitrogen can lead to serious problems. With the worst forecast, the bush will simply wither and cease to bear fruit altogether, you will have to uproot the currants and grow the seedling again.

When and how to apply

I feed shrubs in the first half of May. It is possible to process currants with carbamide already in April-May, at the very beginning of the summer season. The main thing is to catch the moment when the buds are just starting to bloom, an additional influx of nitrogen will give the plant strength, and the currant will develop better.

Each experienced gardener has his own recipe for preparing a solution for feeding currant bushes. I use this one:

  • 10 grams of dry urea;
  • 10 liters of water.

I first dissolve urea in 1 liter of water, then add the rest of the water, pour the solution into a watering can and pour the entire volume into the root circle. In this way, all the minerals permeate the soil and accurately get to the roots of the plant.

You can still carry out dry top dressing, but then there is a possibility that the nutrients will penetrate unevenly into the deep layers of the soil and will not be able to help the roots. For dry top dressing, 10-20 g of urea per 1 m² will be required. Top dressing is carried out after heavy watering or rain, the soil must be moist so that dry crystals can dissolve.

Precautionary measures

Carbamide is an almost universal complex mineral fertilizer. It is extremely useful for plants, but can be dangerous for humans. When working with this drug, the following safety precautions should be observed:

  • top dressing can be carried out when the air has warmed up to at least +5 degrees. The same applies to night temperatures;
  • protective gloves must be worn; crystals should not be taken with bare hands;
  • respiratory organs are best protected with a gauze bandage or respirator;
  • if the solution gets on the skin, it is necessary to immediately wash the body area with soapy water.

I recommend processing on a calm day, preferably in the morning. Firstly, it is useful for plants, and secondly, it will help to avoid unwanted contact with drug crystals.

Urea is one of the main garden fertilizers. The benefits of urea can hardly be overestimated, but it is necessary to observe the timing and precautions when working with this composition. By following the rules that I have deduced in a practical way, you can achieve excellent results and a gorgeous harvest.
