Why some drivers add brake fluid to the tank, and what comes of it

What happens to a car engine when something other than direct fuel gets into it? Have the majority of domestic drivers ever thought about this, especially among those who are the proud owner of a diesel power plant! And you should also think about what does not happen to the engine if some “substances” do not end up in the fuel in winter.

Hardly a year goes by that, with the onset of cold and frost, some not very experienced motorist complains that this morning he could not start his car. "swallow" with a diesel unit, although he always performed maintenance in a timely manner and replenished the fuel supply only at branded proven gas stations stations. In fact, everything is quite simple. As practice shows, quite a lot of people forget about the fluidity of diesel fuel.

Why can a diesel engine stop starting with the onset of cold weather? Yes, all because the incoming fuel into it turns into a cloudy gel. The main culprit is a substance called paraffin, which is needed to speed up the combustion of diesel. However, already at -10 degrees paraffin solidifies so much that diesel fuel loses its ability to pass through the fuel filter. It is for this reason that the so-called "winter" diesel is produced - a fuel that undergoes additional dewaxing during the production process. For this reason, diesel for winter and off-season is always more expensive.

Of course, there are many "folk" and not very ways to solve the problem of a "summer" diesel engine in winter. What only people did not come up with to add. The simplest and most common method is to pour a small amount of kerosene into the fuel heated after the car has been running. The method, it must be admitted, is extremely doubtful. Kerosene really protects the diesel engine from freezing, however, due to insufficiently high lubricating properties, it accelerates the wear of the plunger pair.

Some drivers also recommend adding brake fluid. It is difficult to say whether it contributes in any way to the process of impromptu dewaxing, but one thing is certain. Brake fluid in the fuel tank promotes the absorption of water, which can cause internal corrosion, and in addition, accelerates the wear of the power plant due to insufficiently high lubricating properties. In the bottom line, the vast majority of "people's" councils, at best, claim the title of an emergency measure. To use such methods on an ongoing basis is to be an enemy to yourself, your wallet and car.
