The name of this variety was given by its color - the dark color of the fruit noticeably distinguishes it from other tomatoes. Sometimes on the bushes you can find pure black vegetables. The stems themselves are very strong and hardy, not requiring much attention. At the same time, they are distinguished by rapid growth (the bush can reach 2.5 m in height) and high fertility.
Distinctive features
Black Bison is distinguished not only by its color scheme, but also by a number of special characteristics. The variety is hardy, unpretentious, stable. With proper agricultural technology, you can grow a real tomato forest and reap a bountiful harvest. Among the specific differences, I will highlight the following:
- unusual elongated shape of the leaf plate;
- the shade of the leaf changes at each phase of growth - the tops of the seedlings are very light, of a delicate shade, with age the color of the greens darkens, and in adult plants it is of a rich dark tone;
- the exact shade of a tomato is rarely black, usually purplish blue or brown purple;
- the fruit is round, flattened vertically, large - the largest reach a weight of 350 g;
- the pulp is juicy, "fleshy" and soft, the taste is unusually sweet, with a long aftertaste and a characteristic aroma;
- the tomato is distinguished by internal oligohydramnios, and there are few grains in the seed chambers.
Unlike other large tomatoes, the Black Bison has a thin skin that is quickly and easily damaged. Due to this, the variety is not suitable for long-term transportation and conservation, as the fruits burst and deform. The only type of seaming that this sweet giant is suitable for is sauces and lumpy snacks.
Like the rest of the tomatoes, our hero is thermophilic and is designed for growing in closed greenhouse beds. The full vegetation period takes 165-175 days, and the weight of the collected fruits from one bush reaches 6 kg. One of the secrets of experienced gardeners is the formation of a powerful Bison stem “in two trunks” - the shoot after the sixth ovary is carefully stopped.
Growing Features
The Black Bison is grown in greenhouse conditions, which automatically makes it available to all regions of our country. The tomato is quite late - the ripening of the crop occurs at the end of summer - the beginning of autumn. I advise you to start sowing seedlings in early March, so as not to delay the process and not be late.
Even when buying seeds in a store, I advise you to calibrate the planting material with a saline solution, as dummy seeds can be caught.
I will voice the unspoken rules, thanks to which you can qualitatively influence the fertility of the Bison:
- before planting, it is recommended to soak the seeds for 18-20 hours in the Epin-Extra stimulator, after wrapping them with thin gauze;
- as a soil, it is better to take light soil, designed specifically for tomatoes;
- after sowing, cover the containers with a transparent material: a film or a lid;
- to strengthen the stem after the appearance of 3 permanent leaves, the seedlings should be dived, carefully moving the shoot along with the earthy clod into a larger glass or pot;
- moving seedlings to permanent greenhouse beds should be scheduled for mid-May;
- the main thing among the care procedures is regular and sufficient watering, as well as careful loosening of moist soil.
The vegetable is extremely sensitive to additional feeding, I recommend using the Senior Tomato complex supplement, it has a balanced composition of essential nutrients and minerals.
Black Bison is a sweet giant that will delight lovers of fresh tomato salads.
