Among the wide variety of varieties and hybrids, cucumbers, which are bred by Dutch breeders, stand out strongly. Almost all Dutch hybrids have high resistance to various adverse factors, fairly strong immunity, excellent fruit taste, and high yields. One of the best representatives of such cucumbers is the Gunnar F1 hybrid. It is about him that I will tell further.

Description cucumber Gunnar F1

Gunnar F1 is an early hybrid. The first cucumbers ripen within 4-6 weeks after germination. Fruiting is rather extended. Fruits need to be collected 1 time in 2-3 days. But with abundant fruiting, they should be checked every day.

The plant is tall, but compact, lateral shoots are short. The root system is powerful and developed. Each node has 2-4 cucumbers.

Fruits without spots or stripes, have a dark green color. The peel is monophonic, brightens only towards the tip. The average length of a cucumber is 13 cm. The shape is cylindrical.

The peel and pulp of the hybrid are dense, so the fruits weigh about 100 g. There is no bitterness even in those cases when the greens are overripe.

The main advantages of the hybrid

The advantages of the Gunnar F1 hybrid are many. Main advantages:

  1. The yield is up to 22 kg per 1 sq. m for spring planting. During summer planting, this figure drops to 12 kg.
  2. After full ripening, cucumbers do not deform and their taste does not deteriorate. They may still be on the plant for several days.
  3. Due to the compactness of the bushes, planting care is greatly simplified.
  4. Fruits are stored for a long time, at least two weeks. Under the right conditions, they do not spoil the taste and appearance.
  5. Good transportability. This is due to the thick skin.
  6. The hybrid practically does not suffer from brown spotting. He also has a fairly good resistance to other diseases.

Landing

Like most other varieties of cucumbers, Gunnar F1 is suitable for sowing directly in the garden, and for growing through seedlings. I prefer to plant directly in the garden, as it is less of a hassle, although there is a risk of losing plants due to unexpected return frosts.

I sow seeds in open ground only when the top layer of soil warms up to at least +17 degrees. The site should be open and well lit.

Soil requirements are:

  • good breathability;
  • looseness and lightness;
  • neutral acid-base balance;
  • a large amount of humus and soil bacteria.

I begin to prepare a bed for cucumbers in early spring. At this time, I introduce complex mineral and organic fertilizers for digging. Then I water the bed and cover with a film.

Before planting, I remove the film and make furrows about 2 cm deep in the soil. I fill them with water, and then lay out the seeds. It is necessary to mark the bed so that for 1 sq. m was no more than 3 plants. After planting, seedlings will appear in a few days.

Watering and fertilizing

The hybrid needs to be watered regularly, but moderately. For watering, I use slightly warm water. You need to pour it under the root so that drops do not fall on the leaves.

I apply fertilizer 4-5 times per season:

  1. A week after the seedlings sprout.
  2. During the formation of 4 true sheets.
  3. When I spend pinching the point of growth.
  4. At an early stage of fruiting.
  5. After harvesting the first full harvest.

For top dressing, I recommend buying complex mineral fertilizers.

A hybrid from Dutch breeders is rightfully considered universal. Gunnar F1 is well suited for growing in your garden or summer cottage, as well as for large farms. It gives an early and abundant harvest of delicious cucumbers.
