Every gardener dreams that his backyard would be decorated with such stunning flowers as roses. Subject to all the rules of agricultural technology, these plants bloom for a long time, filling the air with a sweet aroma. I have been growing roses of various varieties for a long time. Now I would like to talk in more detail about cuttings of culture.
Cutting features
I prefer this method because it is quite simple and allows you to save all the varietal characteristics of the plant.
There are several landing methods:
- in potatoes;
- soil;
- water.
With the help of potatoes
The main advantage is that rotting potatoes are an excellent fertilizer for cuttings.
To carry out the procedure, I recommend taking medium-sized tubers. Then remove the eyes so that it does not germinate.
Then I proceed like this:
- I choose a healthy mother rose bush for blanks. It must be healthy and free from disease or insect damage. I cut the cuttings with a sharp, well-disinfected secateurs. I choose a strong, young escape. The length of the workpiece is no more than 15 cm. I powder the lower cut with a root formation stimulator. I close the top one with garden pitch so that it does not rot.
- I make a small hole in the potato.
- I place a cutting in it.
- I bury the tuber in the place where the rose bush will grow.
- I water with a little water.
Some gardeners I know bury the tubers first in a flower pot, leaving it indoors. I do not recommend doing this, as there will be an unpleasant smell and mushroom mosquitoes may appear.
With a wet wipe
A new way, tried it recently, but overall I liked it. For him, I make blanks 5-6 kidneys longer than for the potato method.
I wrap the cut cuttings tightly with damp paper, then with a dark bag and put them in a warm, dark place.
Periodically I check to prevent the process of decay and moisten the fabric.
Callius appears after 14 days. I immediately transplant such blanks into previously prepared soil and cover with a glass jar to create a greenhouse effect.
I use this method for propagating climbing roses.
With a glass of water
I like this method to me the rest, because it is laborious and gives few seedlings.
I implemented it this way:
- I poured clean, warm, settled water into a transparent jar by 3 cm.
- Added a small amount of growth stimulant.
- Posted cuttings.
I put the container on the battery so that the lower part of the blanks was warm, stimulating the process of root formation. And the upper one is in the cold - the formation of leaves stops.
As soon as the roots appeared, I immediately transplant the blanks into the ground.
Advantages and disadvantages of cuttings
Among the advantages I draw attention to the following:
- An effective method that gives a large amount of planting material.
- Preservation of all varietal qualities of the plant.
- Seedlings are quickly taken to growth in a new place.
Of the shortcomings, I note:
- The need to carefully select the mother bush.
- Low resistance to cold snaps in the first winter. I recommend building a shelter.
So, propagating roses from cuttings is a great and fast way to get new, actively growing plants. It is quite simple, but effective. You can place blanks in soil, water, potatoes. Roses are quickly accepted in a new place, start growing and bloom for a long time, luxuriantly, retaining all varietal qualities.
