Ryabinushka was bred in the early 2000s by Volga scientists; this species was included in the state register in 2007. According to the characteristics, this variety is suitable for growing in the conditions of the middle lane and northern regions.
Main characteristics
An adult bush grows small (about 50 cm), upright with a plentiful deciduous crown. The leaves themselves vary from medium to large, have a smooth edge and a dark green color. Inflorescences are formed compact, lilac-blue.
The variety belongs to early ripening species, gives a bountiful harvest, and is highly resistant to characteristic "family" pathogens and pests.
Due to its good taste and culinary versatility, it belongs to table vegetables, has a crumbly delicate structure after heat treatment.
The fruits grow oval, medium in size (weight reaches 135 g) and even in shape. The peel is smooth, reddish-brown, with small whitish eyes. The flesh of the tubers is creamy, juicy, with a low starch content (11-15%).
According to technical indicators, Ryabinushka ripens 2.5-3 months after the appearance of the first shoots. The variety is relatively fertile, the total weight of harvested root crops from one hundred square meters reaches 400 kg.
Advantages and disadvantages of the variety
Ryabinushka, in my opinion, has all the typical potato advantages that are highly valued by gardeners:
- good indicators of keeping quality and storage time (up to 96%);
- large crops;
- excellent taste qualities;
- even and aesthetic shape of tubers;
- resistance to common diseases.
The variety does not show obvious disadvantages; the absence of large root crops and low starch content can be attributed to minor disadvantages.
Important points of agricultural technology
The mountain ash cannot be classified as a demanding crop, but it requires the correct implementation of all agrotechnical processes: compliance with planting standards, harvesting of seed, competent territorial marking of rows, accounting for crop rotation and a suitable composition soil.
The optimal time for planting this species will be the end of April - the beginning of May. At the same time, the main guideline is the level of soil heating and air temperature: the environmental indicators should not fall below 7 ° C, otherwise the tubers will stop developing and rot. In the southern regions, due to the earlier and warmer spring, sowing can be blunted earlier.
In the matter of crop rotation, good precursors will be:
- winter cereals;
- onion;
- peas;
- beans;
- cabbage;
- garlic.
Planting in beds after nightshade should be avoided.
I also note that Ryabinushka belongs to those varieties that can be planted in one place for two to three seasons in a row, if the root crops are used only for food.
Good soil for potatoes is black soil and sandy loam with neutral acidity and low salt levels. If the soil in your area is denser and heavier, then you should dig with the addition of sand, as well as thoroughly fertilize the soil and, if necessary, add additives that neutralize the acid.
Ryabinushka tubers should be germinated before planting.
Acceptable interval in the planting scheme: between rows - 60-70 cm, between bushes - 30-35 cm.
Mandatory care activities:
- irrigation;
- harrowing;
- hilling;
- prevention of parasites, pests and diseases;
- fertilizer.
Subject to all the rules and agrotechnical measures, the harvest of Ryabinushka will be large and will clearly please the owner.
