In order for the fruits of pepper to grow large, juicy and without defects, it is necessary to form bushes in time. Sprouts are adjusted as they grow, this process is also called pinching.
The meaning of stepchildren
The procedure for removing lateral shoots in young plants is called pinching. I remove only those branches that do not play a key role in the development of the plant, but pull on the nutrients necessary for fruit set. I never remove the top shoots.
In order not to stress the adult plant, I carry out pinching exclusively on young sprouts. I make sure that their height is not less than 25 cm.
In open ground, the procedure is carried out for tall and branched varieties. In greenhouses, I recommend pinching even undersized varieties, for a number of the following reasons:
- pasynkovanie is the best prevention of rot caused by high humidity;
- pruning excess shoots will allow the main branches to receive a sufficient amount of light;
- the formation of bushes will thin out thickened, due to lack of space, planting;
It is necessary to pinch not only unnecessary branches, but also painful areas, if the disease has only manifested itself. If most of the culture is affected, then I remove it from the garden completely.
Pros and cons of pinching
The procedure is quite popular and common, especially in greenhouse cultivation of pepper. I propose to consider in more detail its advantages and disadvantages.
The advantages of carrying out stepsoning include:
- active growth of bushes;
- increased immunity;
- saving space in the beds;
- nutrients are directed to the formation of fruits;
- rich harvests;
- large, juicy and tasty peppers;
Among the minuses are:
- possible stoppage of development, death of the bush, if pinching is carried out out of time;
- removing the desired branches will lead to minimal yields;
- a procedure carried out during an illness will lead to the withering of the plant.
As can be seen from the list, the disadvantages of pinching appear only if it is carried out incorrectly.
Technology
I spend pinching no earlier than the height of the plant reaches 25-30 cm. For cutting branches, I use disinfected tools. I never form weakened and diseased bushes.
The procedure itself is carried out according to the following scheme:
- I remove side shoots when the bush has formed at least 10 stems.
- I cut off the lower leaves completely, remove the first bud.
- The main stems (plant skeleton) - pinch.
- Of the newly grown shoots, I leave the strongest, and remove the rest.
- I form the growth of bushes upwards, removing weak shoots.
- I carry out a garter of bushes.
Pasynkovanie stunted and tall bushes has certain differences.
- Undersized. To keep the bushes compact and grow in breadth, I remove their upper shoots. I also cut off excess foliage and barren branches.
- Tall. I form the bushes so that they take the shape of the letter V. At the same time, regularly, as I grow, I tie up skeletal branches.
Beautiful, large, juicy and sweet peppers are an indicator of correct and timely pinching. Before starting the procedure, I recommend that you familiarize yourself with the characteristics of the planted variety, so that instead of benefit, do no harm.
