The correct formation of pepper bushes (the variety does not play a big role) can significantly increase the amount of the crop. At the same time, the amount of fertilizers applied can be reduced to a minimum, and with a good soil composition, additional feeding of the vegetable can be completely abandoned. The thing is that during the procedure, excess shoots and leaves are removed from the stem, and the remaining green biomass is a light structure. This maximum relief greatly saves the internal juices of the plant, directing them to the development and growth of strong branches, inflorescences and fruits. Nutrition becomes focused, which allows you to grow large and juicy vegetables.
As a rule, more experienced gardeners resort to the formation of bushes, beginners try not to touch the plant and expend energy on providing external comfortable conditions. However, high-quality pruning can significantly facilitate the agrotechnical complex of measures, saving effort and time. In case you do not have enough time for proper care, and you do not want to cut the bushes, I will inform you that there are hybrids that do not need shaping at all. This is due to the peculiarities of bush growth, such varieties are only pinched.
Unlike undersized stems, medium and tall bushes are subject to mandatory formation. If you do not cut off the extra shoots and leaves, the pepper will grow unnecessarily and give a lot of ovaries. Fruits are formed from inflorescences, however, due to the large number, they will all be small and not juicy, since a limited amount of internal juices will be divided among all. In turn, the abundance of green mass threatens the vegetable with various diseases, the formation of rot and a lack of illumination of the lower levels.
Features of the procedure for the stem
I note an important fact that, depending on the stage of vegetation at which the pepper is located and how it is grown, the procedure has some characteristic differences.
During the seedling period, the first bud is removed from the pepper. It appears three weeks after germination and takes away a lot of the nutrients and strength of the plant.
I will describe the step-by-step process of cutting the seedling stem:
- Until the appearance of two main branches, all stepchildren are removed. After the appearance of the first branch, everything below is also removed.
- When a second fork appears, the strongest branch is selected from the two shoots, the other is pinched. The leaf with the ovary remains intact.
- With further formations of forks, the process is repeated.
- If the height of the bush exceeds 0.5 meters, then the formation of two stems requires the installation of a trellis and tying up the left branches. Otherwise, heavy fruits can break the shoots.
- Throughout the season, the stem is periodically inspected and all the shoots that appear are pinched.
Such a construction is called skeletal and it forms the main deciduous crown of the bush.
The garter is carried out with wide fabric ribbons to avoid damage to the bush.
During one day, I do not advise removing more than two or three branches and leaves in order to avoid pepper disease.
You need to start pinching by removing the leaves.
Peppers growing in open beds usually do not need shaping due to their low growth.
In ornamental varieties, a beautiful crown is formed by trimming everything superfluous.
In conclusion, I will gather knowledge into a single whole - in the process of formation, the crown bud, “empty” shoots, buds and dry parts are removed, and a different process is suitable for each variety.
