Potatoes of early varieties are in high demand in gardeners. It ripens at the beginning, maximum in the middle of summer, which makes it possible to enjoy its taste earlier. Consider the characteristics of the ultra-early variety Juvel.
Description
The tops of the variety are upright, slightly leafy, dark green in color. Flowering is characterized by rather large, light purple flowers. You can harvest the first harvest after 45 days. Such an early harvest will give about 400 c/ha, if harvested on day 65, the yield will increase to 750 c/ha.
The variety is resistant to many diseases:
- golden nematode;
- virus Y;
- various rots;
- potato cancer;
- leaf curling;
- late blight.
From each bush you can collect about 20 potatoes, weighing from 90 to 150 g. The fruits are oval, with a smooth skin of a light yellow hue. The pulp is yellow, with the usual taste, medium degree of boiliness.
I think that the variety is ideal for frying, but with the ability to use in other culinary dishes.
Advantages and disadvantages
From the variety of advantages of the variety, I want to note the following:
- early maturation;
- high yields;
- disease resistance;
- good keeping quality and transportability of fruits;
- universal use;
- high commercial qualities;
- suitable for mechanical harvesting.
Of the obvious shortcomings, I can draw attention to only two:
- mediocre taste;
- increased watering requirements.
Preparing for landing
Planting dates for early potatoes differ in different regions of the Russian Federation. One of the main conditions is the temperature of the soil is not lower than +9°C. I plant in open, well-lit areas, observing the rules of crop rotation.
I start preparing the site in the fall. I carefully dig and fertilize. I use mullein (40 liters) with superphosphate (1 cup) per 10m².
When choosing seed material, I stop only on whole, healthy tubers. 2 weeks before planting, I place them in bright, with access to sunlight, rooms for germination.
Landing
When planting, I maintain a distance between rows - 60 cm, and between bushes - 30 cm. This allows the bushes to fully develop and not obscure each other. I place the tubers in the pits, sprouts up, after which I fill them with soil. At the bottom of each hole, you can pour 1 sack of wood ash.
If the site is distinguished by the close passage of groundwater, then I recommend landing on specially prepared ridges.
Care
Applying the required amount of fertilizer is the key to potato health and high yields. It is necessary to carry out 3 dressings.
- As soon as the first shoots appear.
- Bud formation time.
- Period of active flowering.
I regularly weed the plantings so that weeds do not absorb nutrients from the soil.
Variety Juvel needs abundant watering. To do this, I spend them 2 times a week. On hot days, increase the amount to 3. In rainy weather - reduce. I use drip irrigation to avoid getting moisture on the tops. 2 weeks before harvest, I finish watering.
The next day after watering, the soil needs loosening. Bushes should be hilled twice per season, the first time when their height reaches 20 cm, the second - after 14 days. When pests appear, I use special industrial preparations.
Ultra-early Juvel is a high-yielding, unpretentious and disease-resistant variety. Differs in good keeping quality and universal use.
