Five nuances when choosing a cordless vacuum cleaner

When choosing a cordless vacuum cleaner, everyone pays attention to suction power, operating time, features of a turbo brush, but few people think about other equally important things.

Using the example of the three vacuum cleaners I have, I will show what is also important to pay attention to.

Five nuances when choosing a cordless vacuum cleaner

As examples I will have:
Dyson V6 Animal Pro +, which is already six years old (my review
here),
Makita DCL181F (my review
here),
inexpensive popular vacuum cleaner Xiaomi Deerma VC 20 Plus.

1. Ease of cleaning.

Not all vacuum cleaners are convenient to clean, and this also applies to expensive models.

At Dyson, it would seem, everything is simple and convenient - you pressed the lever, the bottom cover opened, the dust spilled out. In reality, this is usually what happens.

You have to remove the entire container, clean it and put it back, and it is rather inconvenient to put it on.

The new models have made it more convenient, but still not perfect.

At Makita, the case is simply divided into two parts and the dust spills out, however, you still have to pick out the dust adhering to the filter bag and knock out the bag.

Deerma is much more complicated. First you need to pull out the nozzle.

Next, you need to remove the "glass".

Then remove the central part from it.

Pour out the dust and clean what has stuck to the red core of the cyclone.

Next, you need to remove the HEPA filter and clean it.

Then everything is assembled back: the HEPA filter is returned to its place, the core is inserted into the glass, the glass is put on the vacuum cleaner, the nozzle is inserted back.

Agree, not very convenient. And it gets worse!

2. Filtration system.

I haven't cleaned a Dyson's pre-engine filter in six years - it's still perfectly clean!

This is achieved through multi-stage filtration - first the main cyclone, then the grid, then a dozen microcyclones, then this filter, to which almost no dust reaches, and at the outlet, after the motor, HEPA.

Most vacuum cleaners from other brands have a much simpler filtering system - only a cyclone and a pre-motor filter (sometimes there is also a metal mesh). Because of this, already after the first cleaning on the pre-motor filter, you can see dust flakes, as in the photo above.

Specifically, with this Deerma VC 20, people insert a piece of synthetic non-woven cloth in front of the HEPA filter so that the main dirt settles on it, and not on the filter.

It is even worse when the pre-engine filter is made of foam rubber - dust clogs into its thickness and it is much more difficult to wash it.

If after the first big cleaning the pre-motor filter becomes dirty, such a filtering system is no good, and this happens with most vacuum cleaners.

So far, I have seen a Dyson-like filtering system only with Xiaomi Dreame (not to be confused with Xiaomi Deerma). They, like Dyson, have a mesh after the main cyclone, then several microcyclones, then HEPA with a foam ring inserted from the inside. This ring only starts getting dusty after a few big cleanings, and the HEPA filter stays clean for a very long time.

Perhaps there are other vacuum cleaners with a more or less normal filtration system, in which the pre-motor filter is not covered with dust after the first cleaning. If you know of such - write in the comments.

3. Ease of inclusion.

The Dyson vacuum cleaner works as long as the trigger is pulled. Many do not like this, as the trigger has to be held throughout the cleaning. In new models, they added the ability to work after a single press.

Makita has done very conveniently: one button, located just under the thumb, turns on the vacuum cleaner, the second turns it off. Pressing the first button again turns on the reduced power.

Deerma has the most inconvenient inclusion that could only be done: the only button is located inconveniently, but the most unpleasant thing is that you need to keep it pressed for almost three seconds to turn it on.

4. Weight distribution.

When I got a Makita vacuum cleaner, I began to constantly use it for manual cleaning of small dirt and did not even understand why. It turned out that it is simply more convenient to hold it because of the ideal center of gravity that comes to the handle (on one side is the battery, on the other is the motor).

Dyson, oddly enough, can also hang on your finger, albeit leaning forward.

But with Deerma, the center of gravity is far ahead of the handle and it is very uncomfortable to hold it.

Weight distribution has almost no effect on the convenience of cleaning the floor, but if you often use the vacuum cleaner in manual mode, this is also worth paying attention to.

5. fire safety

I am confident in the safety of these three vacuum cleaners, which I cannot say about cheap vacuum cleaners of little-known brands. If there are not very high-quality batteries, there are no protections, the charger has a primitive circuitry, such the vacuum cleaner may cause a fire during charging (I have not yet I heard).

And another strange thing about Deerma. Sometimes it becomes necessary to use a vacuum cleaner with a turbo brush without a pipe. Almost all vacuum cleaners allow you to stick a turbo brush into the vacuum cleaner itself, but Deerma VC20 does not - for some reason, the attachment of the pipe to the vacuum cleaner and the brushes to the pipe are made different.

I apologize for the quality of the photos in this post - in fact, these are frames from a video in which everything looks much clearer.

When choosing a vacuum cleaner, pay attention not only to the main parameters, but to those nuances that I talked about today.

Peace for everyone!
