Any prepared covered space is suitable for growing radishes - a stationary greenhouse, a polycarbonate shelter, an insulated greenhouse. In the northern regions, additional heating is needed, which will not only protect the seedlings from freezing, but also allow you to sow the seeds directly into the ground.
For good growth of radishes and a bountiful harvest, a number of external conditions must be observed:
- optimal temperature regime (from +18°С during the day, not lower than +10°С at night);
- the level of soil heating is not lower than + 12 ° С;
- stable air humidity of about 70%;
- full daylight hours (8-12 hours).
Subject to all standards, radishes will grow and produce crops exactly according to varietal terms.
In addition, I note that too low temperatures will make the young shoots stretch out, and excessive lighting (14 hours or more) will lead to the formation of arrows on the bushes.
Landing dates
With sufficient warming of the soil indoors in the greenhouse, radishes can be planted immediately after the snow cover has melted and the night temperature has reached 0°C. It is worth focusing on the March-April border. For an earlier harvest, seeds can be sown at the end of January, however, it will be necessary to carefully monitor the temperature regime: day + 15 ° C, night - 0 ° C.
With a stable level of heat, the first shoots will appear on the 3-5th day.
Seed selection
If you plant a variety intended for open beds in a greenhouse, then you can not wait for the harvest - the culture will give all its strength to arrows, inflorescences and seeds.
For a greenhouse, early and early maturing species with a short growing season (up to 25-30 days) are suitable. For my greenhouses, I chose the following:
- Greenhouse;
- Dawn;
- Helro;
- early red;
- Heat;
- Sax.
The presented varieties are resistant to external conditions, as well as the excellent quality of a plentiful harvest.
When buying the selected type in the store, pay attention to the healthy appearance of the grains and to the seed treatment already carried out in production (calibration, disinfection, growth stimulation). In the absence of these actions, all preliminary preparation will need to be done at home.
The substrate for radishes should be light, neutrally acidic and loose.
Ideal compositions of soil mixtures:
- garden soil + manure humus;
- sod land + peat + manure humus;
- sod land + manure humus.
The soil on the beds has been prepared since autumn: they dig up the earth in greenhouses, apply fertilizers and humus, then mix the gran, level it and immediately prepare the planting ridges. A couple of weeks before planting radishes, cover the soil with a film and correct possible acidity.
Landing
After warming up 3 cm deep, cover material is removed from the ground and seeds are sown manually.
Optimal sowing scheme:
- depth - up to 1 cm;
- the gap between the grains is up to 2 cm;
- row spacing - up to 8 cm.
Care
The mandatory conditions of the external environment and agro-technical actions include:
- temperature support;
- providing the necessary level of lighting;
- regular watering (in hot weather - daily, in cool weather - once every 3 days);
- airing (after each irrigation for at least half an hour);
- mulching (organic materials);
- thinning (keeping a distance between the bushes of 2 cm);
- timely top dressing (products with a high nitrogen content);
- weeding from weeds;
- gentle loosening (after each watering);
- protection against parasites (powder from tobacco dust and ash 1: 1).
If all conditions are met, the first harvest of juicy root crops can be harvested in 1.5 months to the delight of households.
