Tubular rich green leaves have a spicy spicy taste. The unpretentious species endures low temperatures, which makes it possible to grow a crop in regions with a cold climate.
- Tiered, also known as Egyptian. The name is justified by the structure: bulbs form on the peduncle of the plant, forming several tiers. The height of the first tier is half a meter, the subsequent - about 20 centimeters. Up to five tiers are formed in one season. Hollow dark green leaves, covered with a wax coating, stretch up to 80 centimeters.
Features of the autumn planting of onions
The best time for planting must be chosen in such a way that the bulbs have time to take root before the arrival of negative temperatures, but do not have time to sprout. The optimal time is about a month before the expected frost.
To successfully plant onions before winter, you should know the following important points:
- The optimum air temperature for planting is 5 degrees Celsius, while the soil temperature should be within three degrees.
- For planting, it is worth highlighting an area that is well ventilated, but at the same time protected from drafts.

- You can plant onions before winter either by seed or by bulbs. If you have chosen the seed method, the material should first be disinfected and then dried thoroughly at room temperature. I use manganese solution.
- The soil also needs to be prepared. To do this, I carefully remove the site from plant debris, dig and add organic matter and mineral supplements. If your site is too acidic soils, it is worth adding ash.
- To plant onions, it is necessary to prepare furrows up to three centimeters deep, the interval between which should be about 30 centimeters. Furrows should be sprinkled with soil, and then mulched with humus.
