In my dacha environment, everyone grows cucumbers. They grow in my greenhouse, some of my neighbors in the garden, others in a barrel. Even a family that does not want to engage in a garden plants a few to have these delicious greens on their table.
With favorable weather, this crop develops rapidly and begins to produce a crop. But with prolonged cool temperatures, cucumbers seem to freeze and do not want to grow.
What temperature should be at night for outdoor cucumbers?
The fruits are nourished by the leaves at night, which is why the temperature at night is so important. For the growth of cucumbers, an air temperature of at least +15 degrees is needed. The maximum allowable rate is +35 degrees. With such an increase in temperature, the pollen becomes sterile.
It is possible to prevent the death of plantings only by moistening cucumbers and adjacent areas by sprinkling.
At low temperatures (less than +10 degrees), a tender culture can get sick and die. How to help landings:
- plant cucumbers along a wall or fence on the leeward sunny side;
- arrange plantings between tall plants (corn, sunflowers).
Sharp changes in temperature at night lead to a decrease in yield. In regions with unstable weather, it is preferable to grow cucumbers in greenhouses.
Ways to save cucumbers from frost
The easiest way to build a warm bed. I made this for zucchini this season.

Not all plants tolerate the introduction of fresh manure well. Cucumbers welcome such food. The manure also warms the bed. To do this, in two weeks it is necessary to lay the manure on the ridge and spill it, and cover it with polyethylene on top. I also fenced the place with a beam left over from the construction, it will give additional warmth and protection from the wind. If steam has come from the garden, you can plant seeds.

In such a ridge, instead of manure, food waste, leaves, grass, and branches are laid. Branches are laid below for drainage. On top I add compost or humus. Organics in the process of decay release heat, cucumbers grow better.

This well-known method is used by many gardeners. Temporary shelter can save plantings from frost and wind.

When the temperature drops for a long time, the plants suffer. A urea solution can help them. I breed 1 tbsp. l. the drug in a bucket of warm water and water the plantings at intervals of three days until the leaves turn dark green.
Folk ways
If the frosts were taken by surprise, and there was no covering material, I use the following methods:
- I cover plantings with grass, buckets, roofing material, and other improvised means;
- so that the soil does not freeze, I mulch it;
- I spray the plants with a solution of boric acid after sunset.
Temperature for greenhouse cucumbers
I plant cucumbers in a polycarbonate greenhouse when the temperature reaches +20 degrees. With a critical decrease in this landing indicator, I additionally cover. Elevated temperature is detrimental to the ovaries. I reduce it by ventilation. I open windows and doors.
When growing cucumbers under a film cover in case of frost, it is necessary to build an additional shelter from a film or covering material. In addition, to reduce heat loss, you need to mulch the soil.
It is not in our power to avoid sudden temperature changes, but it is possible to somehow level these processes, to use any available means.
